Mizim's knuckles were chalk-white as he gripped the scale of a giant snake, Ali. His sister, Sia, clung to the creature beside him with a vial of Demon Nectar in her pouch.
Ali spoke in tongues, for he had many. His razor-sharp rows of teeth spun as he tore through the dirt, wiggling in a way that left his tag-alongs mostly unscathed.
They'd been underground for eons, chasing the venomous nectar to save the human race. Mizim only hoped that they weren't too late.
"Mizim," Sia mouthed. Even though she was shouting he could barely hear her.
"Did you feel that?" He watched her say.
"Feel what?" Mizim shouted back.
His answer came in the form of a water drop racing down his neck. He nearly lost his grip.
Their eyes went wide.
"Turn around!" They both screamed at Ali, who wouldn't understand. They were supposed to be surfacing in the middle of a desert just to be safe.
Mere seconds passed and the drops became drizzles, multiplying until finally Ali realized and halted.
But it was too late.
Gushes of water poured down into the newly created tunnel and Ali writhed beneath it, throwing Mizim and Sia off to the edge.
Clasping onto a misshapen rock, the two hung from a tunnel all the way down to the underworld.
"Humans!" The Depths announced, a hivemind of ocean creatures. "Your world is lost! We thank you for creating an opening down to the unconquered."
Mizim nearly snapped his wand in half with his one free hand.
Water splashed against the two. Mizim's leg ached from Sia's tightening grip.
Flicking his wrist up, he splashed a wave of salt water onto the nearest Depth.
They gurgled in laughter. "You cannot fight water with water!" Their voices echoed as the ceiling split, funneling The Depths even further down.
It wasn't long before Mizim's grip gave out. The Depths then merged with the water, cackling as it cascaded into Mizim's every orifice.
He could hear Sia scream as they both got separated, falling back down to hell.
