The boy reminds you of Aimsey.

Sure, he may not have the same scarless skin, or the familiar fabricated eyes, or the sweet smile you were once so used to seeing, and yet you can't help but draw the connection between the two. Maybe it's because he's young, and different from the other children. After all, it's clear he's no human: he looks more like a pig. Maybe it's because he looks at you with that same curiosity, instead of pity or arrogance. Or maybe the truth behind it is quite easy: you're simply losing your mind.

Whatever the real explanation may be, you can't help but see the image of a young Aimsey in the face of Schlatt's grandchild. While Wilbur is angrily screaming at Schlatt, which doesn't draw any attention to them, surprisingly enough, you've simply squatted as you're staring at him with a soft heart. "This is alcohol-free, you dickhead," you then hear Schlatt answer, looking up to watch him point his finger at Wilbur annoyedly. "What? I'm not allowed to give him drink with no alcohol?!"

When Wilbur realizes his mistake, he immediately apologizes, much against his will. "Shit, I'm sorry, I thought it wasn't," he starts out, as even Schlatt seems to acknowledge the inventor is too tired to properly see, even. So, eventually, he rolls his eyes and gestures with his hand for him to shut up. He tells Wilbur that it's okay, who keeps on apologizing, seemingly not knowing what else to do. That is, until he notices you're squatted down, looking at the gestures the boy makes with his hands. "This is Michael," Wilbur then tells you, looking down at the two of you. "He's Tubbo's adopted kid." Some more gestures are made, so Wilbur adds something to it. "He's mute, though, so I don't know if you know sign language, but he does." Michael nods. You smile.

Maybe once you knew it. Maybe once, before you'd ever come into contact with this virus, you'd known sign language. But you honestly don't know. Maybe you never did. "Hey Michael," you say with a sweet smile, listening as your voice just slightly goes up. The boy waves, likely realizing you can't understand what he's trying to say as he moves his hands. As your face remains with the same expression, you introduce yourself. And the boy responds with just as much silence, yet so many words.

Though you can't understand sign language, the two of you still manage to have some sort of a conversation. Wilbur watches in admiration, while Schlatt throws more alcohol down his throat. Eventually, you take the child dancing, feeling such a strong sense of familiarity and satisfaction as you take the boy's hand and childishly take him onto the dance floor.

Both Wilbur and Fundy watch it with widened eyes, and while Fundy would've felt betrayed if it was anyone else you took onto the dance floor, but instead he can feel his heart soften at the sight. Like a parent, you make the boy smile almost as much as you're doing.

His heart's beating against the cage in his chest, as he feels the air taken away from him. The way you're treating that young child, only makes him fall even more. So gently, so lovingly: the exact way he wanted Sally and Wilbur to treat him, even if he was already almost an adult when he was taken in. Fundy needed someone to take care of him, and he feels like you could finally be the person to love him. The right person he can give his own passion to, instead of wasting it on people whose love feels fabricated. Because what you're showing, your feelings are genuine. He'll be able to feel safe around you, and comfortable enough to be his own, authentic self. He can already imagine a future with you, only by this short scene of music.

However, as he glances over at his father, who's looking at you with just as much fascination and interest, he realizes he isn't the only one who'd like something like that. Though he can't read Wilbur's mind, he can easily see the suppressed desires and lust in his eyes. While Sally isn't scared to openly show you affection, Wilbur has always done his best to act as though he doesn't care about you, but it's clear to Fundy that he does. And honestly, he can't help but be scared as to what he'd be prepared to do. How far would his father go to get what he wants? He's seen how their parents ruined each other, so what if he will ruin you too?
