We drive a semi circle around a fountain, a white two story black shingled roof house on my right hand side. The door opens and I grab my jacket and step out. The house is long and has pillars keeping up the porch and a balcony right on top at the second floor. There's four columnar trees in front of the house and plenty of greenery. The floor beneath me is a shiny black brick. I feel like I'm in a book. A very weird book that is my life.
"So...this is the Harris House?" I drape my
jacket over my arm.
"Yes ma'am, may I show you inside?" Grayson
looks at me and gestures towards the house.
"Yes please." I start walking and he follows after me. He opens the front dark, heavy wooden door.
We walk into the house and it's ginormous.
Straight ahead of me are big metal doors and if I walk forward there's a staircase on each side of me that leads to the two sides of the house. The walls are beige and the floor is a beige marble tile.
Grayson walks up beside me after he shuts and
locks the door. "May I take your coat?" Grayson looks at me.
"Uh yes please." Grab my coat from my arm
and hand it to him.
He takes it and walks over to a closet on the
right side. He grabs a hanger and hangs it up. He walks beside me again. "Where would you like to go first?"
I look around, even just this small part amazes
me. "I would like to see your brother." I look at him.
"Follow me, he's probably in our gym." He
turns to the left down a corridor and walks up to a door. He puts in the passcode on a keypad and the doors open to an elevator. We both walk inside and he presses the B button. The doors close and it takes a few seconds before the doors open again. It opens to a dark room, everything is gray concrete including the floor. There's a boxing ring in the middle, a track line, weights, punching bags and different workout equipment.
Grayson walks out so I follow him. "Brother!"
He calls out.
We walk farther in and I see a figure on a weight lifting machine. He puts the weight back on the bars then sits up. I forgot how to breathe. A familiar fog fills my brain.
His breaths are heavy and he's sweating. He
looks at his brother and then me with his whiskey brown eyes. He freezes. So do I.
"This is Willow Garcia." Grayson gestures to
me.
"Uh..." I swallow. "Hi, it's nice to meet you."
He wipes his forehead with the back of his hand. "Nice to meet you, Willow. I'm Zayne."
And he sure is. The same Zayne I left back
home, this time buffer and more filled out. His hair is a little shorter and his face looks just a little older.
"Hi Zayne."
He smiles a little. "Hi."
"So Willow might be taking over. She wanted to see what she was getting herself into first." Grayson looks at Zayne.
I can't look away from him. I never thought I'd
see him again. And he's the son of a mafia boss. Not at all what I expected.
Zayne nods and stands up. He grabs his thermos and opens the top taking a sip. He runs his thumb across his lips. "Well, you are getting yourself in a mess. Teaching two brothers to fight."
"Shouldn't be too hard right?" I smirk a little.
Zayne smiles then looks at Grayson. "May I
have a moment alone with her?"
"Don't do something stupid please." He sighs.
He puts a dramatic hand over his heart. "Never!" He smirks at his brother.
"Fine. I'll be at the bar." He walks off.
"Willow..Willow Irene Gracia...my interesting
girl. So.." he walks towards me with a smile. "You're the girl. Again you impress me."
"It's what I do best." I lean on a nearby pillar, needing support before I pass away.
He chuckles softly, "it is. How're you?"
"Well...my day has been filled with surprises."
My eyes crawl over his loose fitting tank top that shows his incredible thick arms. Arms of someone who fights.
"Well my brother tends to do that. How're you
and Iris?" He wraps his hand around the bar of the boxing rink.
The mention of her name makes my stomach
twist. "Uh...we broke up." I look down at my hands then shove them in my back pockets.
"Ah...sorry, when did this happen?" He pushes
back his hair.
"A month ago." I turn so my back is against the pillar.
"Still fresh then?" He watches me.
"Yep." I lean my head back.
"Well...you're a badass obviously, you don't
need anyone." He smirks.
I laugh. "Yea you're right. So mafia man..what
the hell?!"
He laughs and rubs his jaw. "Yep! Mafia man."
"Makes sense with your murder obsession." I
push off the pillar and walk over to him.
"Nah I just started." He looks at me.
I hold onto the bar and pull myself up onto the
platform. "Oh really?! When?"
"After I found out my dad got diagnosed with
cancer." He looks up at me.
I turn so my back is to the bars. "When was
that?"
"In September." When I began my killing spree. He sits down on the platform.
"Oh damn, so recent, recent." I sit down next to him.
"Yea.." he looks down at his hands.
"Sorry, I heard he won't make it." I look at him. "Nah he won't, but it's ok. My dad was a good person, just a bad father." He leans his head back.
"Ew, now I have to talk to him after knowing
that?" I turn to the side and pull my knee up.
He laughs. "Unfortunately yes."
I lean my head against the bar and watch him.
Grayson comes back into the room. "Ok I had a drink, I need to finish the tour for Willow and then bring her to dad. Are you done?" He looks at Zayne.
Zayne looks at Grayson than me. "Yea I'm done, I have a feeling I'll be seeing her again." He smiles and jumps down from the platform. "Enjoy the tour." He walks back to the weight lifting machine.
"Ready?" Grayson says, looking at me.
"Yes I'm ready." I jump down from the platform and follow him back into the elevator.
He gives me a quick tour of the house, each
room amazing me more than the last. At the end we're standing upstairs in the hallway.
"You'll pick your room once you decide to stay.
Each room comes with a private bathroom and closet." Grayson says as he leads me to the end of the hall.
"Who else lives here?" I follow him.
"Me, Zayne, my father, our three caps, Andrea,
Micah, and Karter. We also have our soldiers living here, Liya, Koa, Saiba, Aeros, Ryker, and Kali." He opens the last door in the hallway. "You'll meet Andrea tonight, the rest of the crew you'll meet tomorrow."
The door leads to another long corridor. He
finally stops at the left hand side. "So, are you ready to meet my dad?"
I take a deep breath and look at the door behind him. "I guess I have to be huh?"
He smiles. "I guess you do." He turns around
and knocks just as we hear.
"Fuck you dad!" From the other side of the door.
