The suicide

"Mom the news is on" I yelled to my mom because it is our daily schedule to watch the news together. "On today's news in our local Burkeville, there has been a body found inside the lake, but we can not disclose any further information until we figure out what's going on." My mom and I looked at each in shock and fear, we didn't know if it was an accident or on purpose but it couldn't possibly be on purpose because we are in a small town everyone knows everyone right? "Maybe it is a silly prank some kids are pulling since Halloween is in a few weeks". Mom chirped out with worry still on her face. I saw the worry on her face so I just agreed with her and went up to my room until they let out any more information about the body.

It's the next day and there are rumors going around everywhere about what people think happened. "Maybe it was suicide." "What if someone murdered someone." "Come on you guys it was probably just an accident of someone playing around and fell in the lake," my friend Natasha said while we were in our regular group of people at lunch. I, Natasha, Chloe, Justin, Logan, and Marcus. We have all been best friends since we were little kids since you know we live in a small town. "Justin what do you think about this situation you are the only one who hasn't said anything," Chloe said to Justin which is true he's been unusually quiet today. " I think it's just some kids playing a prank with Halloween around the corner." We all nodded our heads to that because my mom said the same thing. It could possibly be very true that it's just a prank because the jocks always like to mess around on Halloween time but never to this extent who knows it will probably all blow over in a day.

*3 days later*

"MOM" I yelled because the news was on, there hasn't been anything about the body since the last news a few days ago. "Breaking News in Burkeville, Arizona. The body that was discovered by the lake a few days ago is 17-year-old Brian Mcalister." "Oh my god," my mom said, at this point, I knew it wasn't fake or a prank anymore. This is real life. "I wonder what happened," I whispered in absolute shock. "Police are ruling out the death as a suicide for now unless something proves different." "Jesus poor Martha and her family. I wonder how they're taking it. I'm going over there to help her. I'll be home later tonight." My mom and Martha (Brian's mom) have always been somewhat close. I mean it is a small town after all, I just wonder why he did it. He was always outgoing, and kind of a bully. He never seemed like that type of person. I got lost in my thoughts of all the possibilities of what could have happened and all I could come up with was that it wasn't a suicide and om purpose. Brian being murdered doesn't make sense at all though, yeah he could be pretty mean but death? Isn't that a little too far even for this town?
I texted mom to ask how it was going she said it was rough and she will probably be staying over there so Martha isn't alone. I ended up staying up all night thinking about what could have possibly happened. I looked through Brian's social and everyone else's social in the town and everyone said that it couldn't be a suicide because he has no history of Depression, self-harming, or anything like that. Unless he's really good at hiding it but what happened for him to be depressed? All these questions are running through my head at 2:30 in the morning when I have to get up at 5 for school. I'll just ask mom to let me stay home to take a break from everything that's going on.

My mom came home around 9 in the morning to come to see me and change. She said Martha is doing terrible and she's gonna stay there for a bit since it was only ever Martha and Brian. "Hey, mom, is it okay if the group comes over here for a bit so I'm not alone and so we can talk, everything is just weird and I want to try and make sense of it." "Yes of course but you're going to school tomorrow you can't stay here every day." "Okay deal." Mom has a point though I can't stay moping around here all day. My friends came over around 2 in the afternoon except for Justin. I wonder what's going on with him, he's been acting strange since Brian's death. I remember Brian used to bully Justin when we were younger because of how scrawny he was, but I don't know maybe they were close or something we just all missed. Justin only hangs around us though, and I have never seen Brian and Justin hang out since we were kids and Brian was always making fun of him. I need to stop thinking about other people, I just need a break and that's why my group is here. They brought us stuff to have fun tonight and let loose since it's been awhile.
