Rant: That One Friend

Friends.

They are lovely things.

Most of the time, at least. I personally enjoy the company of the few patient enough to deal with my shenanigans.

But, as you probably know, there is always that one friend. The one who is better than everyone at every little thing. And I mean everything.

I personally am experiencing such a relationship as I type this. I love this friend dearly, but sometimes she's so perfect I want to snap her neck. (In the most loving way possible, of course.)

Every time you make one single mistake around this paticular friend, you can feel the sympathy and/or scorn and judgement. You try so hard to impress this friend, but you just can't. An example of what it feels like it sort of when you work on a school project. No, not work. You pour your own heart and soul into the thing, and it's glorious. You can't wait to see your teacher's awed expression as you proudly present this project. But on the day of your presentation, after you've eagerly shown off your marvelous work, the teacher merely gives you an almost smile and a monotoned "Good work."

It's the saddest, most soul-crushing moment in your entire life. You spend the next small eternity obsessing over it. Or at least, I do. Because you want to impress this person, make them proud of being your friend, more than anyone else. And you failed.

ISN'T THAT FUN?!
