Four years. Four years since I have been in love with Dylan Matthews. And four years of him not knowing it. Since that first day of sixth grade when Dylan introduced himself to me for the first time. He wasn't a new student or anything, he just simply was never placed in the same class as me or never really made an effort to talk to me.

Usually people tell you that you'll get over your middle school crushes before you can even work up the confidence to talk to them. But no, not for me. My love for him never faltered. Not once did I find myself less interested in him than I had been the day before. And even now, being in tenth grade, that still remained true. And honestly, in my dream world, everything would be perfect how I'd have the confidence to ask him out and he'd agree and we'd hit it off like we had no differences.

But in reality, none of that would even come close to happening. At least not when I'm Meredith Scraider, the shy girl who always gets good grades, does her chores, turns in before curfew. According to everyone at school, that's what I'm like. But the thing is, those people who say that don't even know me. They don't know what I'm about, what music I listen to, how I spend my weekends, what I do on my free time. But in high school you don't need to. The popular crowd gets to assign that to you while the kids that aren't as high up on the social scale have to take it. And the worst part? Dylan Matthews just so happens to be one of the highest on the social scale, while I'm hanging onto it for dear social life.
