Silent Hatred

Days after the felling of The Calamity Ganon, Princess Zelda was anointed Queen of Hyrule. And with this newfound title she found herself speaking to her people and sending out letters to all the other rulers, praising them and thanking them for their help in the dire time.

Within her letter she not only sang their praises, but also sorrow for the loss of The Hero, Link.

________

The entirety of the kingdoms rejoiced. Word had spread instantaneously of the Calamity's defeat. Sludge receding from where it had come, the heavily enraged beasts of protection becoming more docile, and the sky clearing on the horizon were such indicators of its defeat.

King Dorephan and his son, Prince Sidon, were in the highest of spirits upon the return of scouts with reports of the activity. Celebrations were arranged and guards were called to take time off of their duties to join in such a joyous occasion. They all laughed and spoke happily of their returned freedom, as well as catching back up with loved ones the soldiers could not be with during their assigned watches. Most uncertainty and fear had been abated as the night came and all returned to their respective homes.

The King and Prince had retired to the throne room to further discuss future plans when a messenger races to them, panting heavily, the young Zora clutched onto their satchel as if it were a lifeline. After some minor chastisement from the elder councilor Muzu, the letter with The Queens seal was handed hastily to The King and with a hurried bow the courier was dismissed with a promise of rest. Dorephan scanned the letter with his brow furrowing after each word read. He was hesitant to hand the letter to his son, worrying what the reaction would be, but he does so all the same.

The expressions on Sidons face were all too recognizable. Suprise, panic, grief. The same as when he had lost his sister. Silence followed as Sidon let the letter fall to the ground. The King let the silence stay while Muzu scrambled for the letter and read it himself. He was quick to try and probe the young prince for questions but was silenced and struck in awe as Sidon made his way out of the throne room without a word to him or his father. Dorephan called to him as he wandered further away which had caught the attention of those who still lingered just outside of their homes and the inn. They all began to call to him when they saw what expression he held.

Their worry had increased tenfold, and they made no attempt to stand in his way as they had saw his eyes in thin slits.

He wandered past his sisters statue, knowing she would have already known of his passing, he wandered past the guards post leading towards Shatterback Point.

He stood there for what seemed like an eternity, finally letting his eyes close and taking a deep breath. It was a mistake. As he let it out a choked sob escaped him. It grew harder and harder to hold back the sobs until he finally began to scream into the open air. He screamed after his throat had begun to burn, after his head grew light and dizzy. He screamed and dropped to his knees, fist clutching the grass below him.  He tore at the grass and the dirt in a fit of hysteria until he clutched at his face, covering his eyes as the screaming finally stopped, but the tears continued streaming down his face.

This pain was unbearable. Worse than any arrow, and beating, and any wound he could ever sustain. He hopped and prayed this was all a horrid nightmare. Moments passed as they became minutes, then hours, until it finally clicked in his head.

Link was gone.

He did not return down to the waters below even as his scales began to dry in the frigid night air. His body ached and refused to move from his position on his knees.  They had gone numb from the long-seated position. He was so exhausted from his grieving, but the tears still came as he felt this way. He felt he could cry for the rest of his life for The Champion, HIS Champion. He could cry for every agonizing secret he never told the man. He could cry for all of this grief and now hatred plaguing his mind and body as he thought more of Link.

He felt such malice for everything. Why did Link have to be The Champion, the one to save all of the tribes and creatures, the one to bear the weight of the gods and goddesses and the souls of the departed, the one that had now left Sidon alone.

He hated this. He hated this feeling and loss. He hated how he now felt hatred towards the man he loved for leaving him.
