Late Summer of 1558

Mary was starting to get the hang of being in the French Court, and taking care of responsibilities of being the consort queen of France. Everything was fine until there was news of someone becoming sick in the village. The first victim of the Black Plague. The Black Plague or Black Death strikes Europe every 10 years or so leaving millions dead. It is a poisonous disease that contributed from rats. People and animals can be infected by this disease. Once one becomes a victim of this, they can easily pass it on to the next, following a trail of newly victims. It can be caught with only a cough. Once a victim, he or she continuously coughs until blood starts coming out from everywhere and finally they cough out their lungs leaving their body becoming dark as if it turned black, giving it's name the "Black Death".

"This is just fantastic, isn't it. Right after we are announced husband and wife, the plague begins. Well, what are we going to do about it Francis?" Mary asks Francis as she takes a seat on her rocking chair.

"There's not much we can do. The plague spreads fast and we have to lock the whole castle before someone catches it inside the castle" Francis answers.

Mary stands up shockingly "What about the people that would be suffering?" she asks.

"Mary, don't be silly. There are thousands of commoners, how will we manage to save all of them. This castle is large but it isn't immense." Francis explains.

Mary then tries to understand as she sits back down and rocks her chair back and forth.

There's a knock on the door.

"Come in" Francis orders.

"Your majesty, the castle has been locked. No one can enter or exit" one of the guards reports.

"That's great news, you shall be excused now" Francis gives permission for him to leave. He then turns to Mary and smiles.

"Terrible news! Someone has become ill in the castle!" the guards announced.

Lady Lola and Sebastian looked at one another in worry.

"This is terrible, Bash. This is God's punishment for France. We have to somehow help" Lady Lola suggests. Although, she couldn't bare to look at Mary, she still had a heart for great intentions only impure plans.

"What do you plan we can do without getting ourselves infected?" Sebastian asks.

"First we can start by spreading the news that someone has caught the plague, then we shall see from there" Lola explains.

"Not a bad plan, let's get working, shall we?" with that Sebastian went from doors to door shouting that the black death has entered the castle and to be careful. The royals were all hiding themselves in their rooms. While Sebastian was busy with his part of the plan, Lola was planning something else.

"Guards, we are all going to die. If you want to stay alive for you wife and your children then I say you should listen to what I have to say." Lola said getting the guards attention.

"Gather any one who is becoming to look sickly and secretly trick them into taking them into the castle dungeon. There we can put all of the sick ones in a room so they can't get anyone else infected. Sounds good?" explained Lady Lola.

The guards were hesitating at first but they understood that's the only way they could stop the plague from spreading. They continued with this sin idea.

The guards went around the palace and examined the people. It was mostly commoners that we're starting to cough dangerously and they were all vomiting but the coughing, it just wouldn't stop. The guards tricked them by promising that they would be taken care of if they came with them, slowly the dungeon was packed with victims of the plague. Lady Lola watched as people begged for mercy.

"Please let me go! I am not sick, please!" cried one mother.

Lola wanted to feel pity, she really did but she just couldn't.

Days passed, and Lady Lola have put in her very best to keep her plans a secret, even from Sebastian. That's the thing about secrets, it never stays a secret for long.

"Guilty! Lola! There are rumors of what you are up to. This is truly shameful. I just wanted to let you know-" and Sebastian was interrupted.

"Here ye, here ye. The Black Plague is now over, it is now over" announced one of the guards.

"See Bash, I saved you, I saved them all by doing what I've done." Lady Lola tried explaining.

"No, you locked them all in a dungeon to cough on one another and kill each other. Oh, the pain they all suffered. There were families, mothers, children. This is inhumanely. I want to see where you have kept them. Please, I deserve this" Sebastian asked.

"Yes you do, this way" Lola answered as she led the path.

The path was getting darker and darker then finally they arrived at the great castle dungeon. There were two guards that let them in and then Lady Lola opened the door to reveal dead bodies and others still suffering of the plague. Sebastian felt sympathy and a little tear came out.

"I am truly sorry to do this" said Sebastian and suddenly he pushed Lady Lola into the dungeon.

"But you must die for your sins" he finished and harshly closed the door before Lady Lola had a chance to react.

He started visioning Lady Lola inside his head, she was beautiful, and he was starting to enjoy her company but that wasn't enough to hide the fact that she was mentally delusional. He walked out of the dungeons like nothing had ever happened.

"Ah, queen Mary! So nice to see you" Sebastian approaches her.

"You too Bash, have you seen Lady Lola?" asked Queen Mary.

"No, I am sorry" he replied, and she left not satisfied.

Although, Sebastian knew Lady Lola saved him and others from the Plague, but what she did was unacceptable and before she could start sabotaging others, he had to destroy her. Her plans of killing Mary was going to risk Scotland as well as France. Sebastian looked over the castle doors as he watched the last day of summer slowly go down and night was finally awakening. Night, the time for the dead to rise.

The photograph is of Mary Queen of Scots. Isn't she beautiful? That's it for my short story. Thank goodness for creating such an amazing show that inspired me so much to write a historical fiction. Which I actually wrote as a class assignment but then I decided to publish it here. I hope you enjoyed and happy readings!
