Sitting down on the hard cold concrete, arms behind her back with silver metal hand cuffs place on her hands. My eyes widened almost as big as gold balls - I couldn't believe it! Why was Alyssa surrounded by many police officers? Why had this happened? What did she do? A million questions flooded my mind. I continued to peer through the gap. The keys were still laid on the floor. Was that the escape key? I placed my ear against the wall and listened carefully to the muffling voices.
"You will be taken to court next week and we will see what the judge will do," a furious voice boomed.
"WHAT?! Do I seriously have to be taken there again?" Squealed Alyssa.
"Yes, check the beds and make sure there is nothing hiding there," the furious voice went on.
I heard footsteps gradually becoming louder and louder and the door almost banging. I could hear the shoes of running. They were going to check my room! I sped to my bunk and quickly but quietly draped the sheets over me and shut my eyes. I could still hear voices belonging to tough men as they entered our room. I could hear keys dangling and the light switching on.
"Get up! We're checking the room," one of the policemen ordered.
I immediately obeyed and shot up to my bare feet. The police searched around the bunks, checking under the beds and lifting the mattresses up. After, what seemed like a dreading winter season session, the police filed out.
"Go back to bed now," demanded the same police officer who ordered me to get out of bed.
I listened and slowly got back inside as the lights switched off and the door briefly closed. I could still hear voices as I turned and twisted uncomfortably. They were still talking. For a few dozen moments, the footsteps once again could be heard. The door swung open as a police officer shoved a girl inside. It was Alyssa! Her hand were no longer cuffed and she was sniffing. Her face was flooded with water and sorrow sparked in her eyes.
"What happened?" I whispered cautiously, not letting any of the policemen hear me as hey closed the door roughly.
"I-I-I tried to e-escape!" She confessed, stammering at her concerning words.
I stared at her with horror.
"Why?" I enquired in disbelief.
"Does it look like I would want to be trapped here?" She asked.
She had a point but escaping wasn't the answer. I motioned her to go in one of the bunks, preferably the one next to mine. We faced each other and started chatting, mainly about what we'd do when we would be set free. Alyssa quickly reminded me she had to go to court next week and sentence her for maybe another month. We talked until we both dozed off. I couldn't remember the last thing we said but we were awoken by a sharp voice like nails scraping across the black board.
I opened my eyes slowly and restlessly, revealing Sergeant Vaish standing angrily in front of us like she always was.
"Get up, you lazy heads!" She snapped.
Alyssa had awoken too. Sergeant Vaish had ordered us to do our morning run around the barbered wired oval of dry grass before we could have our breakfast. We ran our laps in the cold weather until Sergeant Vaish commanded us to go back inside and enter the dining room. Today on be menu was sloppy cereal which had been sitting in bowls for at least half an hour before serving it. It was bland and I hated it. I turned to Alyssa's face only to reveal it scrunched up. She probably hated it too.
This routine kept on going and going until a week later, Alyssa had to go court. She was sentenced to another month in jail.
"Now I have to be in jail for another month when I could've been released one month later!" She complained when we were having some boring free time in our room.
"That means you'll be in jail with me too!" I responded.
We were excited but upset at the same time - there was still another two months to go together. Hopefully at least Chanelle would come back in like she had told us when she left. Three weeks passed like a breeze in the wind. One more month and we would be free! The routine we had to do was repeated and repeated. There were no smiles, just dull and greyness. The guards lurked everywhere, heavily guarding the place. The only time we were able to smile was in our rooms.
The door creaked open a bit in black night. The moon gave a dim light in our room. The door continued to creak. Anxiety crept up onto me. Slowly, a dim bright light was revealed and there stood what I couldn't immediately recognise...
Chanelle, Mia, Laura, Sarah, Jessica and Tinsy! I was gobsmacked, speechless and stiff. How? What? Why? I stood up slowly from my hard bed and locked my gaze in their eyes as the lights flicked on. They ran to me and Alyssa, briskly. We were reunited.
"Why are you guys here again?" I enquired, eagerly as I fiddled with my fingers.
"Because, we lit someone's shed on fire ON ACCIDENT," Jess explained.
"Yep! Then we got sentenced for a month in prison for arsenal," Tinsy said.
"What's arsenal?" Alyssa questioned.
"It's where you light someones property on fire without permission," Laura explained."That means you guys will be in prison with us for another month!" I cheered happily, grabbing Laura to sit down with me.
After our small conversation, Sergeant Vaish popped her head in through the door and told us to go to sleep even though it was 7:30. We got into bed and giggle quietly and chatted in the darkness of the night. The moon silhouetted against us as stars glimmered in the sky. The sky was like us; scattered but together. I wasn't sure what the time was but it surely did fly. Not once did we get in trouble.
(A/N: Hey, guys! Cream_Fluff here. I just want to tell you guys that I know it seems rushed cause it is. I'll try and improve the part I just wrote so yeah!)
