-- Julia Stewart's POV --
I am definitely not someone to go out to social gatherings. I am an introvert. However in situations where my annoying mother expresses how much I need to socialize I have no choice but to go to lifeless get-togethers with her. In which I am not even involved in any type of social interaction. I'm stuck on a couch on my phone mindlessly scrolling through my timeline on Twitter. But this time it was all different...

" Julia! I need to speak to you !! " my mom called up the stairs.

This is normally how it starts on a Saturday. My mom assumes I have no plans, which is correct, and calls me downstairs saying she needs to talk to me. She then explains one of her friends are having a party and her friend has a teenager who " is much like me " meaning, a teenager who is more likely to be on their phone, as we sit together, than to start any type of conversation with me. Yet every time I manage to do the same thing they're doing. I don't even try to initiate a conversation knowing that my socially awkward self will say something idiotic and the person I'm sitting with will be either offended or creeped out by whatever just came out of my mouth.

" Let me guess, so-so is having a party and they have someone around my age there and you'd like me to socialize for once in my life? " I said taking my ear buds out.

" You really need to get out more!! Unless there is some unspoken boyfriend I haven't heard of?!" My mom said using multiple hand gestures.

" Even if I did have a boyfriend you'd be the last person I'd tell mom." I said rolling my eyes making my way to the pantry in the kitchen.

" But yes actually, Elizabeth is having a little get together tonight and I want you to tag along with me. I haven't spoken to Elizabeth for a while. We recently just got in touch with each other and it turns out she just moved in to a house here about 2 blocks away. She has 3 sons and a daughter. And since I have to catch up with her you're going to help me do that. If anything gets awkward I want you to ask Elizabeth something about her life." She said tapping on the counter.

" Alright. Even though I'm normally the one who makes things awkward I have no choice but to go with you." I said grabbing a bag of Cheetos and exiting the kitchen making my way upstairs.

" Be ready by 5:30 pm. And since you get dressed quicker than I do we're going to leave at 6:00pm." My mom said following behind me until I reached the top of the stairs where I turn left and she turns right.

---------------
It was already 4:30 so I decided to take a shower. By the time I was out it was 4:45 and I had picked out a black skater-skirt and a white flowy lace tank top. Which would be worn with black wedges. I had this feeling in my stomach that this "party" or whatever you'd like to call it, was goin to be different. Therefore I tried just a bit harder to look decent. I put on my mascara and for once I actually put on eyeliner that was winged sharp enough to cut a hoe. I wore a few bracelets and a ring and by then all that was left was my hair. I have brunette-light brown- hair that is down to my lower back. Since curling my hair takes 45 minutes I decided to just comb my hair through and braid two strands of hair from the front of my head and pin them to the back of my head. I grabbed my purse with my phone, chapstick, lip gloss, charger, mascara, eyeliner, and things like tissues and makeup wipes in it. I made my way downstairs and my mom had been sitting on the couch on her phone. If she had gotten ready by 5:30 there must have been something special about this Elizabeth lady. It'd be nice if I knew more about her but I'll save those questions for her at the party. I went to the kitchen and starting going through the pantry.

" Wow ! Don't you look great ! Eyeliner ?! " My mom asked walking in.

" Uhm... Thanks mom. You look great too. " I said not only second guessing what I was wearing but regretting it because my mom was dressed elegantly and I was standing here in a skater-skirt and a lace tank top. My outfit and hers didn't mix however this just showed how much me and mom are not the same.

" You know there's going to be food at the party right ? " She said confused as I made my way from the pantry to the fridge.

"Yes mom. Just about every party we go to has food. That's one of the pros of going with you. Or should I say you forcing me to go with you." I said closing the fridge door and heading back to the pantry grabbing some Hershey's.

" You could just be a rebellious 16 year old towards me like every other teenager." She said in a matter-of-fact tone.

" Being rebellious takes work mom. I'm not about that. I'm good just sitting in my room, listening to music, and stalking Beyoncé. " I said waving around my hand.

" Oh I see ... " My mom said laughing. I don't understand what I said that made her laugh but clearly whatever I said was funny.
I liked seeing my mom laugh. Seeing her sad isn't exactly the best thing to see. And I've always tried to keep a smile on my moms face ever since my dad died in a car accident last year. Never a day passes by without that coming into mind. My mom is the only family I had at the moment and I'm not going to be the worst daughter ever. Sure I may not be the typical 16 year old girl but as long as I maintained within my moms standard and managed to make myself happy as well as her everything is good.
Clouded in my own thought my mom said it was time to leave. We went into the garage and headed out. I felt like this party was going to be different somehow. I don't know whether it'll be good or not but I'll just have to go with it.
