For Dhiren this scene is all too reminiscent of the scene of the fight four years earlier. The one that nearly took Jessa from him, not once but twice.
Dhiren starts yelling for a healer before they even make it to the temporary camp the healers have set up under direction of the deities.
But it's not the healers that come to his aid but the deities themselves. But not even the Ancient one dares to take the unconscious Jessa from the lowly growling Dhiren.
"Dhiren, you must allow them to look Jessa over if they are to help her." Zira is the only one that dares talk to the young dragon prince.
Dhiren takes his gaze off the dangerous dragon trying to take his wife from him and pierces the female that dares tell him what to do with his wife.
It takes a few precious seconds for him to remember that the female is in fact the goddess he grew up with and revered his whole life. Only then did her words penetrate his battle fogged mind.
He turns back to Alaric and the Ancient one. "Help her, please." Dhiren says with tears flowing as he hands Jessa to the two ancient dragons.
"We'll do everything we can, Dhiren. Now I think everyone deserves a chance to see the end of the fight. Why don't you gather them together and show them what happened and the prize that Jessa brought out with her?" Alaric says his pride in his grand daughter overcome with caution as he and his god do their best to help Jessa.
"I'll stay here by her side, Prince. I'll come and get you as soon as they are done." Sorsha tells the grieving prince.
"Thank you, Sorsha." Dhiren says before giving one last glance at his wife lying so still as if her life was already gone.
Kallen stops him, "Jessa?"
"They are doing their best to save her. If they can they will." Dhiren replies heavily.
"Dhiren, she's not dying, at least not yet she isn't." Shandira tells the young elf prince.
"How the hell would you know, Shandira?" Dhiren spits out at her.
Shandira smiles sadly and looks back at the young dragon, "Because, Prince, she is pulling on my life force and not very heavily. Had she been near death she would be pulling heavily from me. She is likely more exhausted than anything. She hadn't had much sleep the night before and then that incredible fight. I have no doubt that she will pull through and you will have many long years with your chosen love."
"I hope you're right Shandira. We all hope you are right."
Then Dhiren walks away to where the armies are gathered waiting anxiously for word of what happened.
"I will have someone show you the ending of the fight you were forced to miss. Jessa prevailed but collapsed just after the fight. She is with her grandfather and the Ancient One now."
Dhiren motions to one of his guards. That one excels in illusion and was able to show the fight to all those there.
They had heard Dhiren say that Jessa had prevailed but when she went down they all gasped in fear. They blink and rub their eyes as Jessa strikes the enemy the killing blow.
As Jessa shows her prize, Dhiren shows it to all those assembled there.
There is loud cheering from all the survivors. They will be telling stories of this battle for years to come.
Some of the enemy manage to slip away from their distracted guards. They will plague the humans for years to come, but in time they too will be hunted down and killed.
