The forest. It's a beautiful place full of life. Well, in this case, lack of life.
Yomi, a young boy, or so he looked. His appearance didn't look a day over twelve, but this boy had been around for millennia, aimlessly wandering the world. A ghost.
Days and nights would pass, and the ghost would stay the same, unmoving from his stance. Curious animals would surround him, the crowd growing ever larger as he lay on a stone statue. A girl, no older than him. A look of horror is etched into her face.
It was an illness. One that killed off the ghost's bloodline. One that killed off his village. It started with one, the boy.
Mental illnesses weren't common in the people from his small village, but they weren't impossible. Yomi Fushihiro, a cursed child. A child cursed to wander the world, whether it be empty or full, whether it be dead or alive. If the world were to vanish, he'd be the only thing that'd remain, for eternity, the eternal child.
It started with headaches. The headaches turned into 'figments of imagination.' The doctors outside of his small villages said he had schizophrenia, whatever that was. He was bound to his bed after he became violent towards these 'images.'
When the 'imaginary' people disappeared, people of the village did too. It was slow at first, almost unnoticeable. As more and more people disappeared, Yomi became sicker and sicker. His death was inevitable, everyone knew it. He was terminally ill. The village, once known for its charming and cheerful people had now been known for its grief. Everyone who entered was bound to it, everyone but Yomi's bloodline.
Leaving was impossible. Everyone who left disappeared for good. The only people who came back were those who shared the same blood as the cursed child. The Fushihiro family became the new leaders. They were the only ones that could come and go as they pleased.
It was stressful to say the least. Having to take care of an entire village whose people could not go. Taking care of an entire village whose people had no hope.
And then people began selling. The Fushihiro family were captured by an outsider. Someone who didn't belong. They were sold to the villagers, the people being told to have children with them. If you share the same blood as the cursed child, you could leave. And, if you can't leave, it was best for your children to. It was their best defense mechanism, to deny their wrongdoings and justify them with petty arguments.
That was when the stone started spreading. All the people who laid their hands on the Fushihiro family eventually turned to stone. It started with fingers and toes, then moved to their wrists and arms, feet and legs were next, and then their torso until eventually, their entire body was covered in stone. Breaking the stone only broke the person, and no one could do a thing about it.
The children born of the sales died along with their mothers. Those born of a Fushihiro womb were bound to the stone statues of their filthy fathers. The village despised this family. A family that 'killed off' their bloodline. A family that tore the village apart, all because of one cursed child.
Eventually, the family ordered healthcare from the only remaining doctor. The man was pure, never falling to the same level as all the others in the village. He carefully cared for the child, up to his last breath.
That was when things got worse. Yomi's bloodline was no longer safe from the stones, and neither were the few villagers that were left.
The poor boy who had to watch his family be sold, his friends die while playing outside the village borders, the people he so cherished be destroyed by grief and anger, now had to watch as each and every last person in his village turned to stone. The last person, was his sister, Jun Fushihiro.
