In which you and Aguni were in a relationship pre-Borderlands, but a lot has changed since then.

**✿❀○❀✿**

You were in your room, looking through the window with a bored expression, your elbows on the sill and your face resting on your hands. You sighed, watching the never-ending pool party going on below you. At first, Takeru building The Beach had seemed like a good idea. A place to give players a chance to live a somewhat normal life. A place in which you could make friends, support each other, play the games together.

It had now become a nightmare.

Not only because he had gone batshit crazy afterwards, to put it lightly, and had ended up believing the lies he himself had made up about collecting all the cards, killing the players that would hide them from him – death to the traitors.

But also because it had changed Aguni.

You knew he had to play this macho role in front of the other militants. In front of everyone else in The Beach, except Takeru and you. To keep them in line. But that didn't mean you had to put up with it. You were already tired enough of everyone moving away from you when they saw you coming, refusing to speak to you because you were 'Aguni's girl' and they were afraid of their reaction.

You sighed again.

The Beach was a wonderful utopia for everyone except for you. You were lonelier than ever.

The door to the room opened, and you saw Aguni coming in from the corner of your eye. You didn't even say hello, having lost yourself in apathy already a while ago.

Was he really as scary as everybody else thought?

The Aguni you had met, back in the real world, had not been. He had been a sweetheart, a guy who listened, who cared. Who remembered everything you would tell him. Who would bring you your favorite snacks every time he went to the grocery store. Who would let your huge dog sleep on the bed with you both even if he wasn't convinced about it at first. Who would send text messages to your little brother congratulating him for passing his exams. Who would help your little sister with her body combat workouts. Who would put up with your parents every time you said you missed them a little bit, even if they were a handful.

He was still that person. Sometimes.

If you were alone. If the day had gone well.

If he hadn't killed anybody in cold blood.

Murdering did that to people.

'You look good in that.'

You heard his voice right behind you before feeling his arms wrapping around your waist, his head on your shoulder. You closed your eyes, hard, hoping that if you kept them like this long enough you would be back home when you finally opened them.

It hadn't worked the last thousand times you had tried it, but maybe.

Hopefully.

No, you were still there. At the very least you were between Aguni's arms.

You processed what he had said, shaking your head to dissipate your thoughts.

'Look good in what?'

He lowered his eyes, nodding towards what you were wearing. And then you realized that on top of the compulsory swimwear everybody here had to wear, you had put on a military jacket that used to belong to him, but you had appropriated back when you started dating, saying 'it's oversize, it looks cool, it's comfortable, it's warm and it's mine from now on'. He had let you, claiming it looked better on you than it ever did on him.

It was a lie.

You loved it, though, because it was all those things you had mentioned, and on top of that, it smelled like him. You had worn it to death, almost on a daily basis. It was what you had been wearing over your t-shirt the day Takeru, him and you had found yourselves in the Borderlands.

Now you used it to remind you of who he used to be, before all of this.

You turned around in his arms, to get a better look at his face.

'Well then, Sergeant...' You stood as straight as you possibly could, chin held impossibly high. You jerked the jacket and smoothed it across your body, eyes fixed on him. 'Does your comment mean I pass muster?'

You smiled, lightly, tentatively, knowing well in other circumstances, this situation would have been the catalyst for a long night of passion. Now you didn't really know what to expect.

He lifted his right arm, burying his fingers in your hair, head slightly tilted to one side.

He had a smile on his lips, which made your own bigger.

With his free hand, he grabbed the front of the jacket.

'Finest soldier in my company.'

He pulled you towards him, so that your lips would meet, licking and sucking at each other. It was passionate, it was hungry, it was desperate, it was wild. Your breath became raspy, his stubble tickled at your face, you grunted and sighed, and this third time it was thankfully not due to boredom.

A heavy knock at the door interrupted you.

Both of you froze.

'Who is it?' You asked, after coughing. Your voice still sounded hoarse.

'Hey, it's Niragi. There's been trouble, I need the boss. Is he with you?'

You pressed your lips, trying not to laugh, and saw Aguni was doing the same thing. Your eyes met, again.

'I think I can deliver the message, what is it?'

'Traitors.'

Your smile disappeared.

'I'll tell him when I see him.'

You heard the footsteps leaving. You shrugged, staring at the ground, feeling miserable.

'Guess you have to go. Duty calls.'

'I do.'

'Don't be away for too long, will you?'

'I won't.'

'Okay.'

The door closed and all that was left was you and that damned jacket.
