Hazel's POV:

I had just defeated the sorceress when the Doors of Death made a faint ding, signaling their arrival. I changed my focus and immediately rushed for the door. If everything went well, then Annabeth and Percy would step out of the elevator, and we would be one step closer to defeating Gaea. If not... then I'll probably die by the hands of a titan.

The Doors started to part, but something was right and wrong. Lukily Annabeth was in the elevator, but she was kneeling on the ground in the center of the elevator with a blank stare on her face. She was bleeding and dirty with tear strokes down her cheeks and Percy... Percy was nowhere in sight.

"Oh no. No. No. " I said it with barely a whisper. This was going to be hard. Maybe Percy was coming in the next round? I tried to keep myself from crying by biting my bottom lip. "Annabe—" I started, then she passed out.

"Annabeth!" I rushed to her side right before her head hit the ground. "Annabeth, wake up!"

I tried to pull her out of the elevator. Not wanting to hurt her much more than she already was. I almost had her out of the door when I heard familiar voices coming from a nearby tunnel.

"Help," I called to them.

I heard the muffle of voices then their speed started to pick up.

"Hazel what's wrong?" I heard Leo say before he reached me.

"It's Annabeth," I managed.

"Frank! Help me grab Annabeth!" Leo called back to Frank.

Frank grabbed Annabeth and carried her bridal style. We found an alcove on the edge of the room and set her down.

"Hazel, where's Percy?" Leo asked.

I said nothing. I couldn't bring myself to say it. He got the message pretty well. After all, he knows the look of loss well by now.

"Oh," he said. His expression was blank.

Meanwhile, Frank was giving Annabeth some Ambrosia and Nectar. A few minutes later, she sat up with a gasp. Then she started to cry with her head pressed to her knees.

"P-Percy, he-he's, gone." Annabeth said between sobs.

None of us pressed her for more information, but just let her be.

In time, we would all be mourning soon. We lost a great friend today. A hero. Percy Jackson, we will never forget you.
