"Free day"

Christmas Eve, a time of giving and receiving, it's a time to spend with loved ones, it's a time that should bring happiness and peace....

It should be so...

Boruto sighed in irritation as he walked out of the tenth store he visited in the day and with nothing in his hands again.

He sighed again.

Why was it so hard to get a gift for her?

Okay, every year he always had a hard time getting a gift for Sarada but this particular year it was more complicated than usual.

Normally he would get her anything simple; candy that he knew she loved, makeup (which she always refused so that's why he ruled it out a few years ago), new glasses (which was pointless for two simple reasons: one, she only wore the glasses her aunt Karin gave her, two, he took her glasses as a promise and wouldn't give them back to her until they kept their respective promises), some hair pins or some ribbons (which he thought would be convenient since the Uchiha recently opted to grow her hair long, but he wanted to see her with her hair down until it grew long enough to make a decently long ponytail so he dismissed them as quickly as the thought of her friend with long hair came to his mind), some new kunais or shurinkens (but he always gave her the same thing) and lastly he thought about giving her money so she could buy whatever she wanted but dismissed it when he thought it would make him look like a lazy jerk.

He was heading to another store across the street ready to search it from head to toe looking for a gift for his childhood friend when he heard his friends call out to him.

Looking over he discovered the new InoShikaChō about to enter his favorite burger restaurant, he approached them and returned the greeting.

-Hi guys-

-Hi Boruto, do you want to eat with us?- Inojin invited him.

-Sure, anything to distract me from the crappy day I've had- he accepted, entering the place with his friends and they sat down at a table after ordering their food.

-And may I ask what's got you so depressed- Shikadai asked curiously.

-Well, you see, I've been looking all day for a gift that I've had a hard time getting...- the blond lamented.

-I hope it's not mine because I wouldn't forgive you if you didn't give me my Christmas present- Inojin hastened to joke.

-It's not yours-

-Mine?- Shikadai followed Inojin's game.

-Neither- answered the blond Uzumaki irritated- and before you also ask- he turned to the brunette- it's not yours either- he hurried to say but was surprised to see the somber look of the girl in the group.

-Y... What will you give Sarada?- the curiosity was noticeable in her voice as she wanted to make sure that the Uzumaki didn't hurt her best friend's feelings just for not giving her a Christmas present, much more knowing that the Uchiha had tried hard to get something special for her beloved blond friend.

-I... I don't know...- Boruto's voice barely came out as a whisper but, much to his regret, he was perfectly understood and he knew it when he felt the death stare that the best friend of, go the redundancy, his best friend was giving him.
