State Capital building, Austin Texas
20:45 hours 19th June
"Considering the current events. The constitution of Texas should be amended to allow emergency powers to the governor of Texas. Emergency powers should be enacted for the safety of Texas." Governor Abbot requested, despite nearly a week passing since the "transfer" as everybody is calling it. Discussions on emergency powers haven't been made yet since he hasn't brought it up.Abbot needed to make Texas safe before he could do any of his plans. Such as remove the constitution or amend it as stated in his speech. The Senate was bound to give him his requested powers. The Democrats of course opposed this but were easily out voted by the higher percentage of Republicans.
"As such emergency powers shall be given to the governor of Texas." The speaker of the Senate said it already passed the Legislature, and the House was overwhelmingly Republican.
As such Governor Greg Abbot was given emergency powers. This didn't sit well with the privates and infantry men who were across the border in Leifor.
10 minutes later Abbot was back in his office with the rest of his Cabinet. "Begin preparations for removing any troops who aren't agreeing to this. They must pledge to the party, make sure to censor the press and don't let word come out about this. Who knows how the people in the city will react to this."
"What about the budget for the military?" Asked several of the cabinet members.
"When things calm down you can all have a bite of the budget. The only thing stopping us from doing it then was the Federal government." Abbot very much liked the idea of a Governor for life.
"Alright, that's good."
Discussions about the plans continued on for about fifteen minutes. When the power was suddenly cut.
"What's happening?" Abbot asked he couldn't see the thing as all power to Austin's as it was suddenly cut as the capital of Texas was drowned in darkness. When the generators for the Capitol building kicked.
"I can't call anybody, towers are down!" Said a cabinet member.
Abbot reached for the landline that was next to him and tried to call the number on it. But all he got was nothing he tried to call a number, nothing.
"Landlines are down too." Abbot said, "grab the guards and figure out what's going on!" Abbott ordered an aide.
Texan highway I-30 Occupied Leifor.
21:00 hours 19th June
Dozens of armored cars and Tanks barreled down the highway as fast they possibly could on the cobblestone roads. As the multi-ton war vehicles tore through the road at 80 miles an hour leaving their armor behind.Their mission was to rush towards Austin as soon as possible before Austin could be reinforced by evangelical militias. It was unlikely they were going to reach it in time. They were over 10 hours away in Leifor. That's with normal pre-transfer traffic.
The racing convoy left at 20:45 hours the moment the emergency powers were announced. Abbot wasn't recognized as the US President but still the Governor of Texas. They made a pledge to the constitution and the people of the State and wider US.
It was clear what Abbot was planning, a political army that blindly followed his orders. So he could sell their equipment to the highest bidder. They army knew what Abbot had been planning for years. As long as he was voted into office and ran no one was there to oppose him except for the Supreme Court, Congress and the president.
Without them though he was free to do whatever he wanted. Even with the ceasefire in place and a peace treaty getting into the works the military would remain in Leifor for several more weeks. So he was allowed to do what he wanted considering how disorganized the Democrats were in Texas.
So the military raced to Austin and arrested Governor Abbot for treason and violation of the constitution. Amendments were legal, giving this much power to a singular or a small group of individuals was still violating checks and balances.
By 11:43 hours the convoy arrived at the capital after speeding through the empty streets of Dallas and the surrounding towns. The military arrived at the deserted streets of Austin and quickly began to surround the Capital building.
Over a hundred troops surrounded the state Capital building. While thousands more took positions in the capital to quell any street fighting that was bound to happen from what is essentially an occupation.
"Governor Abbot you have committed treason against the United States Gocernment and her people. Leave the building and surrender yourself to the MPs outside the door or we will use force to get you out!" General Samuel Lee Henry yelled.
The only thing standing between the military and Governor Abbot was a door. Whether or not he was able to escape was up for debate. But it would be clear he held no intentions of coming out.
"Break down the door, get Abbot out here. Doesn't matter if you have to drag him." General Henry ordered, the privates smiled and brought the Beecher shotgun up to the door.
Abbot's anti abortion policies and others made them suffer as their wives, and girlfriends couldn't get the proper help from the dead fetuses that were bound to kill them.
If they didn't have a dead fetus but a healthy one which most did. They couldn't afford a child at the time so they got an abortion which they couldn't as by the time they learned their SO's were pregnant. It was past the time it was legal for a fetus to be legally aborted.
They couldn't afford to go out of state to get an abortion so they had to either go to the Black Market or suffer the consequences of the Republicans' decisions. So now they'll suffer for their unconstitutional actions. The only thing standing between the Republicans and the angry lower class was the military's support which was from the U.S federal government.
Now the military who despite being supported by the Republicans knew full well they just wanted their budget money.
The shotgun breeches fired a shell at the state capitals doors destroying the locks. Dozens of angry mixed troops from lower economic classes stormed the capital building searching for Abbot and his Cabinet. When they reached the meeting rooms where the Governor and his Cabinet convened it was empty. A further search of the building showed it was very much empty, no top Politicians were left in the building. Leaving the state workers alone, the Republicans were always like that.
"Where did the Governor go!" A private demanded a state worker.
"He escaped. I don't know where." The State worker said.
The private activated his radio "The governor left the building." The private reported.
"Affirmative, Delta squads begin checking the sewers for the Governor."
A half an hour passed and the governor, despite being disabled avoided capture.
Several hours later they found Abbot attempting to escape by car. The only time when car dependent infrastructure benefits people is when you're trying to stop your leader from gaining emergency powers, knowing full well what would happen.
The military gained control of the capital. Whether or not the cities, and counties would rebel is unclear but for now things seem to be calm in Texas. The signs of a rebellion are unclear for now.
