"So! Are you nervous about telling Claude?" Asked Kalista as they head back to the house.
"Well...maybe a little. I just hope that..." Ica paused a minute.
"That what?" Asked Kalista tilting her head.

"That he feels worthy. Sometimes my Claudie bears struggles with feeling worthy. I mean, he's gotten better, but still. You know what I mean?" Kalista nodded.

"I do, but he has a whole support system, we'll all take care of him. Plus I think he'll be the oldest dad in the congregation. And if this kid is anything like you, he or she will have an enormous amount of energy. How is a 67 year old man to keep up?" Asked Kalista laughing. Ica smacked her forehead.

"Very funny." Said Ica giving her friend am exaggerated look. She goes quiet a moment.
"You okay? I'm sorry. That wasn't nice."  Kalista apologised.

"No, your fine. I was just thinking..." A wave of sadness passes over Ica's face.
"What's wrong?" Kalista pressed.

"Will my baby lose his or her father early?" Kalista is silent for a moment. "Like you said, Claude is 67...by the time the baby's ten he'll be almost 80. At the very best, he'll live to see his son or daughter turn 30...maybe. That's early for losing a father. Maybe getting pregnant was bad idea." Said Ica despairingly.

"Okay, look at me." Demanded Kalista. Ica turns to look at her best friend. "I will not hear of any of this kind of talk. Regardless, I know Claude will love this child with all he has. If it's anything like they love he has for you, then it's true. And even if Claude does pass away while his kid is young, he or she will have been thoroughly loved by him. And this kid will have many father like brother's in the congregation, until he or she is reunited with Claude...a much younger Claude, new system." Ica chuckled. "So getting pregnant was definitely not a mistake. Don't let me hear you say that again.  Besides, if he was able to knock you up at his age, then he might live well into his hundreds." She said grinning. Ica just looked at her friend, amused.

"What would I do without you?" Said Ica.

When Kalista pulls back up in front of the house Claude's car is in the driveway, indicating he is back from field service. Ica's pulse quickens. "Oh boy."

"You'll be fine." Said Kalista winking. Ica smiled.
"I know."

"Now hurry in. I can't wait to tell Wes he is going to be an uncle. Text me later to let me know how it went."

"I will." Said Ica getting out of the car and shutting the door behind her.
"Okay, see you later."
"Bye!"

When Ica gets inside the house, Claude is at the stove cooking something. Ica takes in a huge whiff. "Whatever you're making smells really good." She said walking up to him and giving him a kiss on the cheek.

"Well, I thought you may be hungry when you got back." He kissed her back. "You were so sick you weren't able to eat anything. I'm making you soup. I hope that's gentle enough on your stomach. So, tell me how was your appointment? Do you feel better?"

"I do. The good news is it wasn't the stomach flu." She said huffing a laugh. Claude tilted his head making his bangs swish to one side.

"Oh? Then what was it." Ica feels her heart once again speed up.
"Come sit down with me, in the living room." She takes him by the hand and leads him to the couch.

Ica, what's going on? Is everything all right? You're worrying me." Said Claude, his dark gray eyes full of concern. Ica nods.

"Yeah, I'm okay. Great actually. But, you know how I wanted Kalista to take me to my appointment instead of you?" Claude nodded. "Well that's because I wanted to make sure of something, before I told you." Explained Ica.
