"I'm so sorry," His voice was deep, and his tone was sincere. He reached his hand out and I grabbed it, pulling myself off of the hard wooden floor. "I didn't even see you." He took a closer look at me. "I don't know how I could've missed you. You're so beautiful." I smiled as I adjusted my dress from the fall. I looked up at him, he was tall. His skin was a light caramel color, and he had the most attractive smile.
"I didn't break anything," I did a quick inspection of my limbs. "So, I think I'll be okay." I joked. We both started laughing.
He extended his hand out for me to shake. "I'm Trystan, by the way."
I returned the handshake. "My name's Tyla." I smiled.
"Well, Tyla," He cleared his throat. "Can I buy you a drink? I think I owe you one."
I nodded my head in agreement. "Yeah, I think I'll need one after that fall." We both laughed. He walked me over to the bar, guiding me with his hand resting on my lower back. "What do you like to drink?" He pulled out the bar stool for me to sit in and sat himself down in the one beside me.
"I'm not really much of a drinker." I sat my arm on the bar table and placed my hand on my chin. "What would you get if you were me?"
"I know a drink that you might like." He smiled. He called the bartender over and proceeded to order our drinks. "I'll take a beer for myself and a strawberry daiquiri for my friend, here."
"Coming right up!" The bartender walked away and started to prepare our drinks.
"Are you from around here?" He turned towards me; his eyebrows furrowed. "I feel like I would have noticed you if you were." He flashed another one of those gorgeous smiles at me.
"I actually just flew in a couple of hours ago."
"So, you're just visiting, I assume?"
"I guess you can say that." I shrugged my shoulders. "I came here to get a fresh start."
"You came here?" He said with a surprised look on his face. "This is one of the smallest towns in Arizona, and you wanted to have a fresh start here?" He scratched at his temple.
"Yeah," I laughed. "I know it sounds crazy; I needed a peaceful place where I could just be alone. " I pulled the corner of my mouth up and shrugged. "And this is the closest thing I could find to that."
"I understand," He rubbed the small of my back. "You sound like you've been through a lot."
"I've been through more than a lot. That's why I came here," I fixed my posture in the bar stool, straightening myself. "I wanted to escape all of that."
The bartender came back with our cocktails. "Here's your daiquiri," She placed my drink in front of me "and here's your beer." She did the same for Trystan. We both told her thank you, she nodded and walked away and then began serving some of the other customers.
We sat at the bar, sipped on our drinks and talked for a while. I found out that he grew up here with his mom and two little sisters. He's twenty-three years old and he works as a dentist's assistant here in town. I didn't tell him much about myself. I told him that I was from Pennsylvania and that I moved out to California about a year or so ago and now I was sitting there in the bar with him.
Trystan was very charming. He was respectful and he seemed like he was really interested in the things that I had to say. I missed that feeling, being understood by somebody else. It's been a while since I felt it but for some reason it was bringing back unwanted memories.
I took my phone out of my purse and checked the time. It was almost two in the morning. "It's getting late, I should probably get going." I stood up, smoothing down my dress once again. "It was nice bumping into you." I laughed.
"Yeah, I'm still so sorry about that." He brought his hand up to his forehead, sighing. "I should've been more careful."
"Don't stress it, I'm fine." I smiled. "I'll see you around?" I grabbed my purse and placed it on my shoulder getting ready to turn around and head out of the bar.
"Wait!" He placed his hand on my shoulder. "Can I give you my number?" He smiled. "You know, just in case you get too lonely here."
I unlocked my phone and opened up the contacts. "Yeah, sure." He took my phone and saved his contact information and handed it back to me.
"Are you going to be okay getting home?"
I nodded. "I'll be fine, it's only about a block up the road."
"It's late, I can drive you."
"Um, I-" He cut me off.
"I promise I won't kidnap you." He laughed.
I agreed to let him take me home and he gathered his things and walked me outside to his car. It was a nice black sedan with semi-tinted windows. He opened the passenger door for me to get inside and walked around to the driver side.
"Where are you staying?" He asked, sticking the keys into the ignition.
"Mandy's Motel." I strapped my seatbelt on and Trystan did the same.
He put the car into drive and continued down the street. He pulled into the parking lot finding a parking space closest to the door. I unbuckled my seat belt and opened the car door. "Thanks for the ride." I smiled, stepping out of the car.
"It's the least I could do." He returned the smile. "I hope to hear from you again soon, I enjoyed spending the night with you."
"I had a good time, too." I grabbed my purse and placed it back on my shoulder. "Thank you, again."
"No problem, have a good night."
"You, too."
I shut his car door and went to my room and headed straight for the bathroom. I washed my face, changed into my night clothes and went to go lay down. I turned the tv on for background noise and checked my phone again before I went to sleep. 1 message from Orlando.
Orlando: I'm glad you found a safe place to sleep. I was getting worried.
I decided not to reply, there was really no point to drag on something that will never happen. I locked my phone and sat it on the bedside table and snuggled myself up inside the covers and drifted off to sleep.
