Chapter 2

Today was the day that Mariana was gonna apply to a job. She was going around town, asking vendor by vendor if they were hiring. Almost all of them rejected her, saying that they wouldn't hire a kid. She wandered all over the village until she came face to face with a bar. She has heard rumors that when pirates come by the island they go straight to this bar.

She felt rather intimidated staring at the bar. There was this aura, it was so strong, she felt lightheaded just by standing outside. She looked around herself to see if anyone else noticed it but no one did.

Gulping she opened the door, hearing the sound of singing, laughing, and glasses clinking. She looked around seeing people have drinking contests, some were crying and some were playfully fighting it was a lively bar.

She went straight to the owner, who was behind the bar. It was a beautiful woman, she had green hair and black eyes. She had a yellow bandana over her hair. She was serving a guy sitting in the bar, he had red hair and a sick-looking scar, they looked like they were flirting, by the time she made it to the bar they looked like they were about to kiss.

"Hello ma'am," Mariana said in the most professional way she could.

"Oh! What's a child like you doing here? Are you lost? Do you need help?" The woman said getting her eyes away from the guy and looking at her with concern.

"I would like to work here"

"Huh!? but why would you want-" the woman said even more concerned before being interrupted by the guy, he was laughing. Other people followed along.

"Hahahahah why would a twerp like you work here"

Mariano got flustered and angrily yelled.

"SHUT UP IM NOT DONE YET OLD MAN!!"

She turned to the beautiful lady.

"Like I was saying. I need the money, desperately, and everyone I asked for employment has rejected me. If it's  experience you're worried about you just have to teach me the basics, I'm good at picking things up by little explaining. But please I need a job"  She ended up bowing at one point. Eyes watering.

The bar went silent instantly.

It was broken by the guy that interrupted the lady.

"Boy, get up" The atmosphere in the bar changed, everyone got quiet and just stared.

She got up, quickly, to not make him angry.

"Why do you want a job here? A child like you should be outside playing." He said while taking a swing of Bu alcohol

"Well you see, my mom is ill and I don't have money to buy her medication," She said, keeping her gaze locked down. She feels as if she were to look at that man she will pass out.

'Well at least I found out what that powerful aura is'

"Mmh, Makino, I say you let the little twerp work for the time being"

"Huh? But he's just a little kid!"

"But he wants a job and it's not like it's free child labor since you will pay him"

"I guess it's okay if he wants a job, alright starting tomorrow you'll be on cleaning duty since I can't trust you with alcohol yet. Mmh maybe I'll even put you on babysitting duty since I don't have anyone to look after Luffy"

"Ah thank you, thank you, thank you" She ran up to her crying and hugged her. The spectators started laughing again, but this time she was laughing along, relieved that she was finally able to have a chance at taking care of her mother.

That day Mariana got a job at Party's bar.

A/N: I read/write a lot of reader inserts and I always end up writing 'you' instead of 'her' and 'she' so please tell me if I did that and didn't notice.
