We were in Suzuka at the track. It was time for me to get into the car for fp1. Unfortunately Lyss' dexcom and omnipod haven't come in yet, but they will be coming to the hotel this weekend so she has to manually check her levels. Lyss was in the garage with Andrea and Arthur. Lyss had headphones on that also had a microphone. As I was practicing for the couple hours we were allowed to practice I listened to my engineers talking when all of a sudden Fred's voice came over the speaker into my ear. "Charles, Arthur a quelque chose d'important à te dire. (Charles, Arthur has something important to tell you.)" I was curious why Fred was speaking in French so once Fred finished talking I asked "Arthur, pourquoi Fred parlait-il en français ? (Arthur why was Fred speaking in French?)" I heard him take a deep breath before responding. I instantly knew something was wrong. "Charles, Fred et moi parlons en français car nous avons des nouvelles qui devraient rester entre nous au moins un petit moment. Lyss s'est effondré. Fred had someone drive Arthur, Wes, and I to the hospital. We finally arrived at the hospital and we ran in. The receptionist told us which room she was in. We didn't even allow the receptionist to continue talking. Arthur and I ran to her room. We finally saw her room and slowed down. Both of us were nervous and worried. We took a deep breath and walked into her room. She didn't look that bad, but she was asleep and hooked up to all the different machines. We quietly walked into the room. Wes tried to climb onto her bed, but it was too tall for him. I picked Wes up and put him on the bed with Lyss. He instantly climbed under the covers and cuddled up with her. Once he was settled into the bed with her I pulled up a chair and sat next to her bed. I held her hand and kept looking at her. As I was holding her hand the doctor walked into her room. "Hi Mr. Leclerc, I have some news on your girlfriend. She went into ketoacidosis which happened due to her type 1 diabetes. I know she has a toddler and was probably busy taking care of him and was unaware of how low her sugar went. Along with this the high heat also affected her levels. I'm telling you this because unfortunately she is in a diabetic coma (diabetic ketoacidosis). I know that she collapsed previously due to her diabetes and lupus, but wasn't in a coma and was able to receive help." I looked at the doctor shocked. I wasn't sure how to react. I asked "Do you know when she will wake up?" He looked at me and took a deep breath. "She may wake up in a few days at the earliest. Unfortunately with cases like this it is hard to tell when Ms. Brennan will wake up. All you can do now is wait. I do recommend having friends and family help you look out for her and monitor both her diabetes and lupus, but specifically her diabetes when you travel since I'm assuming she will be traveling with you. I also recommend having the apps she uses for her dexcom and omnipod so you know what her levels are." I nodded my head at him and thanked him. Once he left I looked at Lyss with tears in my eyes and held her hand. I couldn't believe this was happening to her again.

    The next few days passed slowly. I haven't left Lyss' side other than to take care of Wes, but Wes also won't leave Lyss' side. I missed the Suzuka race. I know Lyss would be upset with me, but I couldn't bring myself to leave her side. Some of the guys game as well. Pierre. Kika, Alex, Lily, Carlos and Isa are with me right now and I know a little later Kelly, Max, Penelope, Lando, George and Carmen will also be coming a little later. They all have been so supportive and caring for me and Wes since we've been here. My worst fear is that Lyss won't wake up, I'm terrified. I haven't even changed out of my race suit yet. Pierre is trying to convince me to at least go to the bathroom in her room quickly, take a shower and change. I didn't want to, but I knew I had to. I quickly took a shower and changed into the clothes Pierre brought for me. After a couple hours the next group of drivers came since they've been taking shifts to help me. When Max and Lando came with the others they brought dinner for Wes and I. I made sure Wes ate and was cleaned up. I put him into bed next to Lyss since it was getting late and I know that today was stressful for him so he is exhausted. Once he was in bed and asleep I couldn't hold back my tears anymore. I started losing it and crying. I looked at Arthur and saw him also holding back his tears. Ever since we got to the hospital he's been silent and a shell of himself. Arthur and I both grabbed a chair and sat on either side of her and each held a hand. I put my head down on the bed and tried to get some sleep. I got a couple hours of sleep and I woke up hoping Lyss would be awake, but unfortunately this wasn't the case and she was still in her coma.
