Persistently, your resilient fingers moved at rapid speeds and fumbled with the inner-workings of the generator you were hunched over at, trying to untangle the jammed wires from the power box without garnering the attention from the bloodthirsty murderer some sixty feet away from you. Of course, with a twisted swing of unlucky fate, you suddenly felt the ever-so familiar sensation of sparks crackling around your hands and those faint, obnoxious tingles around your fingertips from an electrical error and you scoffed at your mistake.
You'd fucked up, pressed the wrong wires together, and the generator let out a loud roar.

"Ahhh, fuck," You grumbled to yourself—manning through the distracting stinging on your hands and forcing yourself to continue on with your wire-adjustment. You'd be damned if you didn't bring this machine back to life, even if it meant you'd go down with it.
Much to your chagrin, your attention was ultimately pulled away from the generator when two hands clutched your shoulders and elicited a shriek to fall from your lips. Your eyes watered and clutched shut, awaiting the pain that.. Never came?

"You alright, babe?" A familiar voice laughed, one that brought relief from the initial shock of being touched from behind without much of a warning.

"Oh, go to hell Jake.." You rolled your eyes, your response earning another laugh from the guy, more teasing than the last.
As he crouched down beside you and began assisting you with re-powering the generator, your eyes flickered to his form and you almost immediately noticed the crimson pooling beneath him—he'd been injured, badly.

"Jake!" you gasped, concern building up within your mind. Since you'd already jammed the generator once, there was a chance the killer would be on their way at any moment. It was insanely dangerous for him to be sitting on a gen with such wounds.
"You're bleeding.." Your nagging tone died down to something more sympathetic and downright worried for the guy. You didn't want to be a leading factor into him getting thrown on one of those horrible hooks, especially in a trial where any quick mistake could be your last.
Unresponsive to the concern evident in your voice and facial expression, Jake instead shrugged dismissively.

"It's finee—Meg is busy running loops on 'ol trapé over there; we have some time. But this mayyyy mean when he gets here you'll have to.. Ah.. Take a hit for the team.." He revealed, sheepishly grinning.

Incapable of even getting annoyed with him, you instead shook your head and felt a small smile curling upon your face. "You're too cute." you mumbled under your breath and allowed your focus to go back into the generator you were tinkering with. Despite the lovable noiret being in the forefront of your mind, with him and all of his terrible jokes and interesting facts about the forest--something far more sinister occupied the innermost of your thoughts. Ji-Woon.

Perhaps it was the comfort Jake brought to you, entirely unalike your last relationship that left a crater of terror imprinted on your chest like a shitty tattoo, or perhaps it was just moronic undying feelings.

In defiance of it all though, no matter what you did, Jake wasn't him, and you found yourself almost too comfortable with the human embodiment of safety.

Despite the lingering aftertaste of unresolved conflict between you and Ji, your memory had become so convoluted when it came to anything from the past. All you could truly remember was the messages, the mirror, and then.. Waking up here one day. It certainly wasn't an easy adjustment, but for a while, it felt far better than anything Ji-Woon could've had in store for you. But.. There was always the afterthought of what could've been. What would've happened, and how, maybe, just maybe, you could've even been content with it.
