A/N: Excuse the shitty fanart my apologies the others will be better I swear & also I'll be experimenting with first person point of view for this chapter, let me know what you think of it!
Duncan POV
---
I growled, tugging and wrestling with my hair that had gained at least three inches over summer. The knew length looked killer when I actually had it up in my usual Mohawk, but when it was down the way it was now it was just annoying.I looked down at my phone, sliding my thumb across the screen as I walked off the edge of the curb, passing by a group of elementary schoolers and their mothers bidding each other nauseatingly mushy goodbyes as they got on the bus.
I huffed at them before remembering my first day of elementary school, my mom had been just the same way..
I shook my head to rid it of the fogy memory, smiling at a new text from Courtney before sliding my thumb up to remove it from my screen. I already knew what it would say and I was tired of listening to the same Zeppelin song over and over again.
I was happy at the thought of seeing Court on a day to day basis again, or at least I should be I guess. But something about it just didn't excite me anymore. It probably had something to do with the fact that we didn't really go more than two days without seeing each other over break.
I pocketed my phone, nodding my head along to ACDC, ignoring buzzes and vibrations signaling more texts from Courtney as I walked on campus. I looked up at the shitty, worn down building with a bored look on my face before scanning the crowd for some familiar faces. I found the two lovebirds smoochin' it up by front gate, too lost in their game of tonsil hockey to notice everyone else's looks of disgust.
I rolled my eyes at the two blonde morons, offering a half smile as I caught sight of DJ waving at me from across the main quad. You could say whatever you wanted about the guy's lack of masculinity, but all in all, guy was a good dude and without him I more than likely would've bombed finals last year.
I stopped walking as I reached the front steps of the school, bracing my self before climbing up one of the pillars to my usual perch.
I could see the entire school from up here, from Izzy and the hippies to Heather and her posse of 'hot but off limits' chicks across the way. I snorted to myself, holding in a laugh as I watched Owen step on a girls hand who had been sitting cross legged on the grass, her shriek of pain causing the oversized psycho lover to jump back in surprise. A mantra of apologies spilling from his lips before he tripped, one of the jocks having stuck their foot out behind him, the entire group of people gathering around to laugh and point as he fell straight on his ass.
I shook my head, moving my attention elsewhere when Owen began laughing along with them, I'd never understand how the hell the kid managed to stay so light hearted.
I smiled as I caught sight of Courtney talking to the lovebirds, the crease between her brows telling me she was more than likely scolding them for their PDA. I cupped my hands around my mouth, preparing to shout her name when a random flash of blue caught my attention.
I squinted, my hands dropping from my mouth to my sides my eyes blowing wide with disbelief. It couldn't be..
I scrambled off the pillar, my bag falling to the floor as I landed, I left it there, abandoning it while I searched the crowds. I stood on the tips of my feet, looking over heads, locking that small tuft of blue in my sights, all the air leaving my lungs as I felt something inside me snap.
I took off, pushing people out of the way, earning a mixture of irritated stares and curious glances as I made my way through. I cursed under my breath, praying to the gods to not let it be my imagination as I stopped, swallowing thickly as I opened my mouth.
"Gwen?"
Gwen POV
---
"Gwen?"I turned at the sound of my name, coming face to face with a guy who looked like he'd just seen I ghost.
"Do I know you?" I asked doubtfully, scanning his pierced face and taking in his black hair with green tips, struggling to place him but coming up empty. I'm pretty sure I would remember someone like him.
He shook his head, a smile tugging at the corner of his lips as he continued to stare at me as though expecting me to disapear. "Uhh" he said lamely, "It's me," he started, as though that gave me all the answers.
I stared blankly at him, my right brow lifting as I frowned, I didn't know who he was.
He chuckled at me, the act shaking loose some of his nerves as he took an excited step forward, "Gwen," he said my name again, the single syllable sounding smooth and familiar on his tongue, "it's me." he repeated.
"It's Duncan."
I squinted at him, visually de-aging him in my head while also removing the studs and piercings from his ears, nose and brow, slowly but surely I could see the six year old kid from my memories poking through. I smiled widely, his eyes brightening as he registered my recognition.
"Duncan?" I breathed in disbelief, his signature smirk falling into place as he opened his arms, "The one and only."
I smiled, "Duncan!" I shouted happily, surging forward and jumping up to give him a hug at the same time he leant down to give me one. We laughed as he caught me, his arms wrapping around my waist as mine wrapped tightly around his neck, a squeal of surprise escaping me when he picked me up off my feet.
Maybe this wasn't such a bad decision after all.
