"Your majesty, i'm sorry to interrupt but if i may borrow a small portion of your time i think there's someone here you might want to see." The guard spoke. Peter who had been sitting on his desk swarmed by paperwork lifted his head up. He's been so lost in his work it took him a few seconds to register what the guard had said. Then it all clicked all of a sudden. " Well it is about time i take a break. Lead the way please." He said trying to hide his excitement. If this were who he thought it was... but no it couldn't be she wouldn't have come to Narnia before going home, to her own kingdom. Would she? He tried not to get his hopes up in fear of being wrong. The stopped once they reached the castle gardens. Peter could hear his siblings voices off in the distance. So he was the last one to be informed of this visitors presence. "I'll give you some privacy your majesty." "Thank you." The guard bowed and left promptly to get back to his post.
Suddenly it all felt wrong. Peter could feel the crown on his head become heavier, his clothes itchier and his palms clammier. He was nervous that's what he was. There was a chance he'd see her after months of being apart and only communicating by letters. If this was really her, why hadn't she written to him that she'd come to visit? Dismissing any skeptical thoughts he started walking in the direction of the voices and there he saw her. As if she'd sensed his presence she looked up to meet his eyes and when brown and blue clashed all the troubles and fatigue of the two disappeared. Three heads adorned with crowns followed the eyes of the young girl to meet the sight of their older brother looking relieved and the calmest they'd seen him in months. He looked pink in the face and somehow out of breath.
In a second the pair sprinted to each other , clashing in the middle, arms secured tightly around each other. Peter could feel his heart beating, beating so hard and loud that he wondered if she heard it, if she felt it banging on his chest trying to break through to reach her. She was home. She'd come home to him. His soulmate was home. Both royals felt lighter now that the other was here. They pulled away slowly and held the others hands after the long lasting hug. Peter studied her face, she had slight dark circles under her eyes but she looked lovely non the less, skin tinted pink and the rays of the sun bouncing off her golden curly hair only to reflect off her crown forming a halo of some sorts. How had he ever functioned without her. He never wanted to be away from her again. She was smiling so big her cheeks hurt. The young king she loved so dearly stood in front of her. No word had been said between the two yet so she broke the silence as she cubbed his cheek, the metal of the ring he had given her many moons ago feeling cold agains his skin. Soon he'd get to call this young queen his wife. The thought alone made his spirit soar. Instinctively his hand reached to hold her hand there on his cheek to ensure she'd never let go. "Hi." He smiled even bigger, if that were humanly possible. "Hi." No other word had to be said between the two as they lunged forward to meet the others lips, pouring all the longing of the last few months into the kiss.
Snickers and sounds of disgust erupted in the distance as the three siblings decided to leave the lovers alone. They'd both needed this.
And as they kissed in the garden, in the afternoon sun and surrounded by roses, they knew this was where they both belonged. Right by to the other. Forever and always.
