Chapter 2: far and off

The group had made camp, everyone was asleep except for Nick, he wasn't able to sleep, maybe it was safety he was doing? Or maybe it was his past that kept him up.

As his eyes were closing, Ruby woke up startling Nick to wake up.

He looked to see Ruby looking around.

Bad dream? Nick asked.

Yeah, it was the event in beacon, Ruby said.

Yes, Cas told us about it, nick said as he yawned.

They soon got up and walked to the next town where Ruby had the map to guide them and Aniki was carrying sleepy Nick.

He's really out, Jaune said.

He said he'll keep watch all night, but he didn't mean all night, Ren said.

Yes, the diamond is mine! Nick muttered in his sleep.

Yep he's out, Nora said.

So, the next town is... uh-huh, uh... we're lost, Ruby said.

We're not lost! The next town is Shion. My family used to visit it all the time, Jaune said.

Oh yeah! Don't you have, like, four sisters? Ruby said.

Uh, seven, Jaune said.

Your family had eight kids! How is that even possible? Nairi said in surprise.

Y'know, that actually explains a lot, Nora said.

As in...? Aniki asked till ruby spoke.

So, what did you guys do there? She said.

Oh! All sorts of stuff! Jaune said as he got closer to Ruby.

Over here is a great hiking trail, and over here is where we went camping all the time! I got my own tent because I was special, also, so my sisters would stop braiding my hair, Jaune said.

Didn't like the look? Ruby asked.

Yeah, they just kept doing pigtails, but personally I think I'm more of a "warrior's wolf tail" kind of guy, he said.

They soon got to the Shion to find out it was in complete ruins.

Oh. my god! Nairi said, shocked.

The town was burned, broken and many of the townsfolk were dead.

Aniki then placed Nick on the ground and followed the group into town.

This is something I never thought could happen to a big town like this, aniki said.

There could be survivors, Ruby said.

Over here! Ren shouted.

They then followed him to find a wounded huntsman.

Oh no! Aniki said.

What happened? Who killed all of these people? Jaune asked.

Bandits, a whole tribe... then, with all the panic, the huntsman said as he began coughing.

Grimm, Ren said.

Here take this, this might help you, Nairi said, handing the wounded huntsman a healing tonic. The man then placed his hand on Nairi's hand and pushed it back.

Why... Why refuse to be healed? Nairi cried.

Just then the huntsman took his last breath and died.

No... Nairi said in despair.
