"um, shinsou, can i talk to you privately for a minute?"
the voice of the girl who had been hovering around shinsou since earlier that morning could be heard giggling nervously, and he sighs. he lazily opens his eyes to check and it in fact was her, a signature smile beaming at him full force, and he squints.
"sure." his response would have been a decline, but the nudge of his green haired best friend from beside him somehow resurrects any will shinsou had in his body, and the tired teen stands from his very comfortable spot that was laying half on midoriya (in his defense, his friend is always warm and shinsou could always use a nap) to follow the stranger.
it would be rude to call her a stranger since he's been in class with her for a a year and a half now, he muses, as he follows the girl out of the shade the large tree outside the campus library cast over the grassy area shinsou was previously sitting under, to the secluded side of the school's outdoor campus. she wasn't an acquaintance either, he supposes, since he isn't aware of her name at the moment. but shinsou doesn't know very many people. he makes a habit to not remember their faces since they're all irrelevant to his life. a classmate is more fitting, he finally decides on their walk there.
he's not really paying attention to what she's saying, so at the end of her ramble, he snaps out of his thoughts when he hears the words,
"i like you!" there it was. there it always was. he had to stop himself from visibly looking annoyed.
"but i don't like you."
the h/c girl looks up from where she had her gaze trained on the floor. his blank expression became disgruntled as he saw the look on her face. ah, he really should have just stayed where he was.
"i know," her kind eyes crinkle into a sad kind of smile.
"then why are you telling me? surely you don't expect me to date a person i don't like?" he feels a bit cruel whenever the confessions get to this part, but shinsou would much rather deliver a cruel blow than lead someone on.
"i know," she repeats her words from earlier. "i would just like to be friends, if you wouldn't mind." lies. how stupid does she think he is?
"you can't seriously expect me to believe that."
"i did just reveal my ulterior motive to you, didn't i?" the girl takes a step closer to him. "i do like you, but i just want to befriend you for one week. if you still don't like me by the end of it, you'll never see me again."
he considered it. between the sighs and disapproving looks he knows midoriya will give him for the next week for rejecting another girl harshly, and being in the company of a stranger for the same amount of time, he chose the latter. midoriya was a little too good at making someone feel guilty. at least with this girl, she's not someone he cares about.
"i won't like you." he warns her.
"i know." she said that a lot, didn't she?
and that was how shinsou hitoshi befriended y/n l/n.
. . .
"then, if we're friends now, can i call you hitoshi?"
"we aren't close though?" he can't help but feel like she knew the answer she was going to get at the small laugh that tumbles from her lips.
y/n skips ahead of him and turns around to face him with the full force of her smile beaming at him, and he looks away from her eyes.
"i look forward to becoming friends with you this week, hitoshi."
"it's unfortunate that i can't say the same." shinsou doesn't know why he's being so honest with the girl in front of him, but the more puzzling thing is the way she let his prickly personality roll off her back so easily.
"i know."
