TWO
"Hey mama."
Dannika Novak spoke in a broken whisper as she sat beside her mother's grave, tears rapidly filling up inside of her eyes, making them red and puffy.
The grave was decorated with all sorts of little trinkets and decorations, many of which were photos of her mother with Dominik and herself, varying from when she was a child to all the way up to a couple of days before her death.
The forget me nots that had been crushed were laying on the soil in front of the gravestone, some of the petals falling off or clinging desperately on, which seemed to sum up the dead woman's daughter too.
Dannika had never gotten over her mothers death and she never would. When Covid-19 took her from the world, Dannika had wanted to go with her.
Dominik had battled incredibly hard to keep his sister around with him, since he himself did not think that he would be able to put up with losing his mother and his sister at the same time.
He had dragged her to his boxing classes just to take her mind off it and let her take her anger out on a punch bag instead of herself.
He had dragged her to his football matches so that she could distract herself and concentrate on her brother kicking a football around for ninety minutes.
"I miss you."
Dominik Novak stood in the distance as he watched his sister crumbling by the second, his fingers pinching at the bridge of his nose as he heard her cry in front of their mother's grave.
He watched as she broke down, making all sorts of pleas and cries before he rushed forwards to wrap his arms tightly around his sisters frame, pulling her against his chest as she sobbed.
Tears fell from his own eyes as they settled on the photos that were scattered across the grave, biting on his bottom lip to avoid breaking down himself since his sister needed him in that moment.
Dannika wrapped her arms around her brothers shoulders as she clung to him, hugging him tightly whilst her head was nestled in to the crook of his neck, her tears soaking in to his shirt though he didn't seem to mind.
Dom pressed a gentle kiss to the top of his sisters head to comfort her, his fingers running through the long brown locks on her head.
His eyebrows furrowed together as his phone began to vibrate, removing one of his hands from his sisters frame to remove the device from his pocket, reading the text message that he had recieved.
"That guy says that he's bought new flowers for mom." The male Novak spoke gently, watching as his sister pulled away from him to read the message.
"Are they forget me nots?"
"He says they are."
"We need to go and get them, mom wouldn't want squashed flowers." Dannika muttered as she pushed herself up to her feet, brushing the dirt off from her body.
"Are you sure that you're up for it?" Dominik spoke in concern, watching as his sister frantically wiped the tears from her face.
"He owes mom flowers, of course I'm up for it." Dannika began to walk towards her car, hearing her older brother chase after her.
As soon as the two of them made it to the flower shop, they noticed the same guy who had trampled on the flowers waiting patiently outside of the shop, with the largest bouquet of forget me nots possible in his grasp.
The man, who's name was Logan, smiled sadly at the two siblings, nodding his head towards the brother whilst carefully holding the flowers out to the woman far enough so that she couldn't hit him.
