Instead of telling you who Mariya Lenkova is, it would be much easier to tell you who she isn't.

She is not a trusting person.
Her eyes glare daggers at her own shadow, as though the grey amalgamation could suddenly come to life and speak.
Speak of the horrors and truths her lips simply won't allow, while brandishing a bloodied blade behind its back.

She is not a soft person.
Her hands, defaced and caked in another's blood, are too dirty to be held.
Silvery pink scars trail slithers up her skin, each a story to be told, each a tale of survival - a life for a life.

She is not a brave person.
Fearless? Yes.
Afraid to die? Not even slightly.
A person with nothing to live for will just about die for anything.
But yet, when the explosions and gunshots fade away, the visceral ebbing of adrenaline comes to its inevitable end;
And when the cries and bloodied gurgles, nonsensical babbling of a man on his knees pleading for his life, is replaced by the hollow silence of her bedroom - that's when it sets in.
The fear of what she has become.

This is a story of pain.
This is a story of love.
This is the story of Mariya Lenkova.
