You're a second-year foreign exchange student from the United States at Nekoma High in Tokyo, Japan. You aren't much of an extra-curricular type of student, all you want is to just graduate. You were only supposed to spend one year in Japan then go back home, but your host family is fighting hard to keep you.
You didn't have much of a family or interesting life growing up back home, which surprisingly got you into video-gaming. Your mother left you when you were only three years old, and your dad was always in and out of prison. Tragically, when you were seven years old, your dad was charged with murder of his ex-girlfriend. He ended up getting fifty years in prison.
Because of that, your grandmother took you in. Lately, her health has drastically declined and since you are an only child, you are not able to care for her the way she needed. She understood completely and set up a foreign exchange program for you, and set herself up with home-care health. You're not sure what happened with the other student, but all you wanted to do was focus on your studies.
You've only been in Tokyo for a couple of weeks, finally all settled in. Your host family was very welcoming of you and even treated you like their own. You were finally able to set up your gaming system.
