❀A.
-
i strung my necklace loosely around my neck, the spring sun shining in through the window and casting itself perfectly onto my desk. i looked into the mirror as i clipped the necklace under my hair before catching gracie's gaze through the reflection.

'what?'

she just rolled her eyes with a smile on her lips before looking away and standing up from my bed.

we were getting ready to go.. fishing? i didn't really listen when my dad called me late last night, interrupting the movie gracie and i were watching to tell us how he had signed us up for some activity this morning. i hadn't really been thinking about it. i had something else on my mind that i know gracie will ridicule me for.

'reece texted me again' i muttered, still peering through the mirror at myself to put my earrings in. reece was my ex boyfriend who had-  an interesting relationship with gracie?

'ew, for what?'

i could practically hear the face gracie was pulling behind my back.

'he was just apologising again and he asked me to meet up' i bit my lip nervously when gracie went silent for a moment.

'no'

my brows furrowed.

'what'd you mean no?'

'as in no going to meet him'

'what if it's important?'

'important my ass'

i laughed at gracie's last comment about as i stood up, grabbing my jacket and checking the location my dad had sent us one last time.

'EW!' i screamed as a fish that my dad had in his hands wiggled it's way out of his grasp and landed on my lap.

'GET IT OFF!' i screamed louder while gracie laughed loudly at the scene, my dad desperately trying to grab the slimy thing.

'stop moving and i'd be able to grab it!' he said.

it turns out that he had signed us up for fishing, which naturally you would think is simple. however we quickly realised we were in over our heads when we could barely put that little piece of bait onto the hook. this meant it had been an hour since we arrived, and my dad was still sitting in the middle of a lake on a tiny boat with us, attempting to teach us how to fish. so far gracie hasn't placed a single finger on a rod and i've almost screamed every time my dad attempts me to.

he finally grabbed a hold of the fish squirming on my thighs by shoving his finger into its mouth and swinging the fish back into the water.

he sighed loudly, his hands rubbing his face as he spoke

'i've to go back to work, can i trust you to not drown while i'm gone?' mainly directing his statement towards me with his pointed stare, while gracie was still giggling at the stickiness coating my lap.

i nodded faintly, more focusing at the slime on me.

he paddled us back to shore, reminding us of the most direct rules before walking back to his car and leaving us to paddle back out.
