Moon always idolized her parents love for one another. She adored them, and one day hoped she can have something as fruitful and beguiling as them. Her days were spend bathing in the light, soaking up the tranquility of her mothers "Ma" Japanese inspired zen garden. A gorgeous compilation of exotic flowers, fish and lush green moss surrounded by hand picked pieces imported from all corners of the mystical East. It was by far the most renowned area in their already notably beautiful home. She would spend her time there dreaming of how equally beautiful and stylish her own home with her husband will be. Her mother, despite being from an impoverished and in her words "Dunce plagued" province. Grew to be one of the most refined and tastefully extravagant women Moon has ever known. She spent entire days during her pregnancy strolling nearby art museums flicking pictures of beautiful pieces that would inspire her creative mind for ideas. On other days she would lay around flipping through dozens of "Architectural Digest" Magazines cutting out all of the pieces she had to have in her "Castillo de ensueño". Her paradise of dreams she also called it, where she would be secluded on her own fantasy island with her charming American prince and their bebé princesa of the stars.
Moon adored her room by far the most. Going back to her mothers half French roots, her room was a tribute to the palace of Versailles and executed in a French Baroque style. With beautiful floral details, custom Dedar Milano chinoiserie toile inspired curtains. But the most beautiful part of her room by far had to be the mural of the night sky filled with clouds displaying a delicate bebé being cradled by a gentle smiling crescent moon and teary eyed star on her ceiling. She never missed a moment of her life without experiencing overwhelming love from her mother, Moon almost had no way of having a positive experience without it. To a certain extent she had no purpose without her mothers guidance and approval.
"Luna mi querida!" Her mother Amélie melodically called out "Coming mami!" She yelled back. Rising off the soft cushion grass dusting her denim overall shorts sighing she gently walked towards the back entrance of kitchen leaving her thoughts buried in the soil of her peaceful zen garden. "You can't waste all day out there you know? All of your bags are still empty mija" Amélie smiled keeping her head down to focus on peeling the fresh seasonal melons caught just in time from the market. "I have a whole week before leaving, besides what kind of moronic institution opens the second week of August?" Moon twisted her face and whined the last part bitterly. "Moving in has to be done before classes begin and it gives all the girls an opportunity to mingle and become familiar with the campus" Amélie sweetly hummed to her pushing a small saucer of melons to her. Sprinkled with white sugar and a squeeze of lemon just the way she loved it. Perfect, the way her mother always made it. "I don't understand how any of that holds even an ounce of importance it's just school at the end of the day" Moon said bored of the topic of her new university St. Lisieux, an expensive and proper all girls private college located in Massachusetts.
The most ideal educational institution in the eyes of her parents, recommended by friends and family it had just the right values and environment for their precious and golden girl daughter. Not to mention it was only a maximum two hour drive from their home in New Hampshire. Moon didn't mind the atmosphere that awaited her at her new school. Her values reflecting the exact same, heavily influenced by her mothers strong Roman Catholic roots. She wanted to imitate what it meant to be perfection in the female form. Kind, virtuous, charitable, intelligent, delicate, loving, obedient and virgin.
She was often perceived as snobbish and quite judgmental by others. Cut off from the new age experiences of loud concerts or raves, childish giggling over boys with friends while guessing their dick size and how well you think they can lay it on you. Drunk Friday night rendezvous where you couldn't escape the suffocating smells of alcohol, weed and raw hard core sex in the air. Moon had no desire for any of it, the degeneracy and loss of dignity in the youth.
"Go now and start packing, we can enjoy some green tea afterwords" Amélie shoo'd her upstairs. "Fine..." Moon mumbled trotting upstairs.
In her room sitting on the floor folding and stuffing, Moons mind drifted unto what was the root of her disfavor. Being away from her mother.
Her stomach curled and sank at the thought of navigating and conquering this new environment. She had to face these new unfamiliar feelings without the help and guidance of her mamá...fear and loneliness. She felt weak and idiotic, like a helpless baby bird left for dead without its mother to feed it the chewed up regurgitated sustenance it needed to survive.
"Oh my fuck you will never guess what I just heard from Anette!" Her wandering into the pit of pessimism and grief was interrupted loudly by her obnoxiously loud best friend Alexandria. "So I was scrolling on Instagram when a message popped up from her and she told me that Lisa Grovard was caught getting fingered in the golf club dining hall by a fucking waiter" She squealed smacking her gum.
"What a whore" Moon said in disbelief and rolled her eyes. Of course everyone in town and the entire student body of Ettwood girls prep has heard of Lisa Grovard and her perverse track record. "I know right! I heard her parents are sending her to a nearby uni and withdrawing her from UCLA what a waste" said Alexandria. "I mean what do you expect them to do?" Moon questioned "Imagine if they let her go, within a week they'd dragging her alcohol poisoned corpse off the front of a frat yard" Moon snickered as shoved a pair of Oxford loafers into her suitcase.
"Christ Moon" Alexandria laughed
"What? It's not like I'm lying" Moon said jumping on the bed next to her
"Anyways, are you excited to leave? One more week and you're off to become a ripe flourishing lesbian" Alexandria teased her "You're literally so unfunny Alex" Moon said annoyed staring off into the view of empty sky. In reality it wasn't Alex's nefarious comments that caused her head to wander again, but the thought of how in no more than a week she will be leaving all of this behind. Cool Summer evenings laying outside, eating perfect melon slices and indulging in hot gossip of the week with her best friend.
"It's a joke you prude chill out" Alexandria nudged her "No but seriously Sun, I don't know how I'll survive at NYU without you." She rolled on her back and sighed. Sun, the ridiculous and intentionally ironic name Alexandria gave her when the were kids. Being one of the only competent and authentic people her age it was only natural they became the best of friends after Moon moved there when she was twelve. She was her first, best and one of her only few friends. But now they'll be parting ways to experience the thrilling years of college life and their first real taste at adulthood and independence. Alexandria had been accepted to her dream school months before to study her beloved creative major film. She'll be in a large city full of fun wild experiences, eccentric personalities and no Moon.
"We'll get to FaceTime almost every day" Moon said "Plus we have Spring, Summer and Christmas break to look forward too"
"Yeah..." Alex groaned
"Don't worry freak, nothing can drive us apart not even cringey NYU and their mediocre film majors" Moon rolled over laughing
"Fuck you lesbo!" Alex replied grabbing moons hair playfully "Ow! Let go I don't swing that way!" Moon teased in pain
"Señoras come down, dinner is ready!" Amélie yelled to the two girls
"Coming!"
AN: I know the first two chapters were pretty short :') I will be working on the next two chapters but I will be coming back to edit this chapter and extend it a bit more.
