I make it to the shore in minutes, a feat that would of been impossible as a demigod. Then I disguise myself as a mortal, my features similar to my actual appearance but not so much so that someone would recognise me.
I breathe in the salty air, admiring the nature around me. If it weren't for the huge amount of plastic littered on the edge of the beach and the decomposing bodies of innocent sea creatures washed ashore, I would of been overjoyed to be reunited with the landmass.
It seems the mortals have continued to lay waste to the earth over the years I've been gone. I think of all the places I could go. Camp Half Blood. No. Olympus. Definitely not. Then it hits me. Our apartment. Mom, Paul and my sister. Tears blur my vision.
The moment I became immortal the gods forced me to the depths of the ocean before I could say goodbye to anyone. I hadn't had contact with anyone since. Poseidon promised me that Sally was okay and that he told her about my situation, but I never got to see my baby sister. I don't even know her name.
What would they think if I just showed up out of the blue? Would they be shocked? Happy? Maybe they'd forgotten about me, continued their happy life, and me being their would cause complete chaos.
But no matter what my intrusive thoughts told me, I couldn't just give up an opportunity like this. I'd finally get to see my family. Not wanting to alert anything of my presence i decide not to use my powers, instead i ask a couple on the beach where I am.
Turns out I landed up somewhere in Brooklyn not to far from Manhattan. I end up sneaking onto a bus, one that will take me to the centre of Manhattan, then I'd be able to walk to the apartment. I get off the bus around about 5pm, not wanting to be outside when it gets dark, although I'm a god I have to lay low to stay out of trouble and running into a mortal gang is not something that would help me.
Luckily I get to the apartment with no interference, but that doesn't stop my heart racing and the uneasy feeling in the pit of my stomach.I change my appearance back to my own so they'll atleast recognise me. I stare at the at the door for what feels like hours and when I finally gain the courage, I knock.
A familiar female voice shouts inside the apartment, and my chest tightens. I haven't heard that voice over 5 years. Then the door opens and I see the face of Paul Blofis. "Percy?" he whispers," Is that you?" I nod unable to speak.
He looks at me, his brow knotted. Then he shouts in the direction of the apartment," Honey! It's not the pizza guy but I think you should come, there's someone you should see!"
I hear a girlish voice laughing and the steps of someone approaching. Paul moves to the side and Sally comes outside. As she sees me, a hundred different emotions take on her face. She looks at me as though I'm not real."Percy?" She says, a tear falling from her face. "Mom," I say barely audible.
The next thing is so unexpected I almost fall back. She hugs me tight as if she wants confirmation that I'm real and I hold her, as she sobs into my shoulder. "Oh Percy, it's really you. I thought if ne-ever see you again when Poseidon told me what happened. Are you okay? Why are you here? Nevermind that pls come in, you must be freezing. Estelle will be so excited to finally meet you." She moves away from me looking me up and down from arms length.
"Estelle?" I say my voice visibly shaking. Sally smiles sadly, "Yes your sister, she's heard so much about you, your all she talks about." I stand there emotionless. So they haven't forgotten about me, but instead grieved over me, told stories about me. I didn't know which one was worse.
"Mom, I'm so sorry i-" Sally interrupted me. "Percy, don't, I'm just happy to see you, anyways it's dinner why don't you come and join us. I'm sure there's a lot we should discuss." They walk in, me right behind them not at all certain what is going to happen next.
