Zane wasn’t sure who yelled the loudest, Garroth, Aphmau or Katelyn. Either way, they all had their jaws on the floor. They desperately looked at Travis to see if this was some joke or something, but nope! Travis confirmed that Zane was telling the truth.
Garroth shook his head, “No, no, no! You - it can’t be! Why Travis?”
Zane stood his ground, “For many reasons, but I don’t have to tell you. Besides, I told you to not freak out”
“But it’s Travis!” Garroth drastically waved his arms in Travis’s direction
“And?” Zane looked sternly at Garroth.
Katelyn popped in, “And it’s Travis!”
Zane turned his attention to her, “And you’re biased!”
Katelyn huffed, “Ok, maybe I am, but it doesn't take a genius to know dating Travis is a bad idea!”
Travis put his arms in the air, “I am right here!”
“I don’t care!” Katelyn hissed out, “You are the most annoying person I have ever met, why Zane picked you over me is insane!”
“Because you are a terrible partner that's why!” Zane shouted.
Zane kept going, “All you ever did in your relationship with him is put him down! You were self-centered and abusive! Even if you don’t like his pick-up lines, it doesn't mean you can punch him! You have never done even one nice thing for him the entire time you dated him! Travis tried his best for you, and you threw it away like it was nothing!”
Zane was getting so heated he was panting now. He looked up at Katelyn who stood there in shock. She had never been talked to in that way before. She was about to bark something back when she stopped herself to look around, and saw all the disapproving looks everyone was giving her. She had stepped a line, and Zane wasn’t going to let her go without some explanation for her actions.
She looked at Travis, “Was I really that bad?”
“Yes, I tried to tell you so many times, but you would never listen. I don’t know how, but somewhere along you must have thought that you could do no wrong. Well you were wrong. I don’t think I can forgive you for a long time now.” Travis said with a heavy heart.
Katelyn kept looking around and the disapproving looks didn’t fade. He was right, they were right. Katelyn was wrong. With that realization, Katelyn picked up her stuff, and walked out of the house. She didn’t say a single word as she left.
Garroth looked over to see Zane furious. His brother never got this angry unless it was something he cared deeply about. This seemed to have clicked something in Garroth’s brain. “Zane?”
Zane looked over to Garroth, “Yeah?”
“Are you happy?” Garroth said in his most honest voice.
“Happy about what?” Zane was puzzled.
“About your decision to love Travis.”
Zane thought back to when he first fell in love with Travis. When he admitted his feelings to Travis and his reaction. The dinner date night which led to the next date. The most tender and loving kiss he could have asked for, and so, SO, many pick-up lines.
“Yes, desperately so.”
There was some silence. Garroth knew it was best to swallow his pride this one time.
Garroth forced a smile, “Then I’m happy for you. Even if it is with Travis, as long as you're happy, I’m happy for you.”
After a bit they heard a, “Me too” from Aphmau. “You always know when you’re right, so who am I to judge now? Plus it turns out I’m not the one who should decide on what's a good relationship anyway.”
