The carriage rushed out of the woods and onto the driveway that led to the castle. The driveway was narrow and tall, steep on both sides, and if the carriage was to tip we would be doomed. In the distance, I could see the tips of mountains, each one covered in snow. Screeching wind whirled around the carriage, threatening to push us over if we did not hurry. The horses increased their speed as the coach cracked a whip on their backs. The carriage came close to the castle but stopped abruptly and the coach hopped off of his seat and made his way to Jonathan’s window.
“This is as close as I am going,” the coach said. Jonathan sighed and gathered his bags, I did the same.
Me and Jonathan walked in the freezing rain. I felt my toes and my fingertips going numb, my teeth chattered and my body shivered. We made it to the castle’s front door and Jonathan had set down his luggage. The walls of the castle towered over us, from where I stood they looked as tall as the sky. Vines decorated the walls, climbing all the way to the top. There was window after window, each one having the curtains drawn closed. The front door was tall and it arched at the top. On each side was a cast iron knocker that was painted black.
Jonathan reached his hand out and grabbed a knocker, slamming it against the door once. A bat flew by, startling me and Jonathan. He slammed the knocker on the door once again, and hundreds of bats came flying down onto us, squeaking and screeching. We were so busy swatting the bats away that we did not notice the door to the castle open.
(This was kind of a short chapter)
