My heart raced as I rifled through the files and first eyewitness accounts

My heart raced as I rifled through the files and first eyewitness accounts. I've been working on this case; a missing persons case. A 4-year-old girl had vanished from her bed at night. Her father was the last to see her after tucking her in. There was no noise or forced entry - it was as if she had simply vanished.

This was not an isolated incident. In fact, there have been 6 similar cases. The children came from different backgrounds and social classes. Only one thing left behind a strange, meticulously clear liquid. The lab had never seen anything like it before.

And last night I had a break through. Although my memory is hazy.

I recall fragments of a fight with a woman who appeared around my age, red locks and blue eyes. We fought and exchanged heated words before she struck me, saying "You're getting in my way." She said striking me with lightning, knocking me unconscious. Was this mysterious woman friend or foe?

I slammed his fist on the desk in frustration. Where were those kids? Was that woman involvd? What the hell happen last night?

Every minute that ticked by made finding them alive less likely. I loosened my tie, feeling like it was strangling me. I had to find something - anything - to bring those children home safely. The thought of having to face those grieving parents again without answers made me nauseous. Only nightfall could have the answers I need.
