april 23, 2020 julia's house
julia groaned as she looked at her ringing phone and noticed that it was her cousin who was calling and not her boyfriend.
"what, melanie?" she said in a snarky tone. julia's grumpy because her boyfriend joe was supposed to pick her up two hours ago for a surprise date he said he was going to take her to but obviously he didn't come.
melanie sighed as she looked at her laptop. "where are you?" she asked her cousin.
"at home. why? do i need to come pick you up from somewhere. are you and bo ok?" julia got up from her bed and ran to grab her shoes and keys.
"no. i'm okay. mick is at his house." melanie hesitated. "where's joe?"
julia groaned at the thought of her boyfriend. "no clue. he was supposed to pick me up a few hours ago for a date."
melanie sucked in a breath as she watched the nfl announcers call joe's name for the nfl draft and shown a clip of his family cheering. "well you may wanna check espn and see who was just drafted as the new quarterback for the bengals."
julia realized what her cousin was saying and held back a gasp. "he's what?"
"i'm guessing you didn't know?" melanie said. "nope. absolutely zero fucking clue. he never said shit. anytime i tried to talk to him about football he shooed me off."
julia was about to continue but her phone started ringing with a call from joe.
"mel, he's calling me. i'll call you back." melanie agreed. "answer it." she said before she hung up to allow julia to answer the call.
"yes, joeseph." julia sassed.
"i'm breaking up with you." click. joe hung up and left julia to process it. "what just happened?" julia thought.
