"Sophie!" a voice whispered in my ear.

I stirred in my sleep but didn't say anything.

"Sophiiiiiiie!" the voice sang.

I groaned and rolled over. My three-year-old sister Emma laughed and pounced on me.

"Sophiiiiiiiiie wake uuuuuuup!" Emma sang.

"What?" I grumbled. I poked my head up and looked at my clock. The time read 7:30. I shoved my head back in the pillow and ignored Emma.

Wait. 7:30?! I quickly jumped out of bed and ran to my closet. I had to be at school by 8! I didn't even wake up in time for my morning run!

"Emma!" I yelled as I rushed around, throwing random clothes on.

"Yes," she giggled.

"Did you turn my alarm off?!"

"Maybe," she giggled again.

God, how does a three year old even know how to work an alarm clock, let alone turn it off? "Why would you do that?!" I yelled.

"I wanted to spend more time with you sissy. You're always gone at school and running and work. You and Johnny never have time for me," she said, a pouty look on her young face.

It's sad but it's true. Johnny, my twenty-one-year old brother and I are always busy. Emma is always at her friend Katie's house next door. Johnny has online college classes and work. I have my senior year to finish up, work, and running to focus on. We both have to work to get money to take care of ourselves and Emma, pay the rent, buy groceries, pay bills, etc. It sucks having to take on all these responsibilities at eighteen. Sure, I can handle it, but I'd rather not. But I do it for Emma. She's all we have left.

"I know Bug, and I'm sorry. You know we have work. And we both have school. Speaking of school, I have to finish getting ready. And you need to go get dressed for day care," I said. Bug is Emma's nickname. Johnny and I have been calling her that since the day she was born because when she was born, she was so tiny. She looked like a tiny little bug. The name stuck.

Emma sighed and walked out of my room. I turned around and walked into my bathroom. I began the morning essentials, brushing my teeth, combing my hair, putting on makeup, etc. I brushed a final layer of mascara on and walked out of my bathroom and into my room.

"EMMA! LET'S GO!" I yell as I spray some perfume and grab my bag.

"COMING!" She yelled.

I walked out of my room and met her in the hallway. We walked to the front door. I unlocked it and pushed Emma out. Johnny always locked the door when he left, since he left really early in the morning. I set the alarm and walked out the door, locking it behind me.

"C'mon," I said, pulling Emma behind me. I checked the time on my phone. 7:50. I had ten minutes to drop Emma off at day care and get to school. I began jogging to my car, with Emma running behind me. I quickly opened the car and put her in her car seat. I put my bag on the passenger seat and got in the driver's seat. I started the car and pulled out, speeding down the street.

As soon as we reached the day care I unbuckled Emma and carried her inside. I signed her in, kissed and told her bye, and then ran to my car. I sped to the school, not wanting to be late. I pulled in at 7:58 and quickly parked my car. I ran into the school and quickly reached my locker. I threw my stuff in there and grabbed my chemistry book, since it was my homeroom class. The bell rang as I ran towards my class. There were barely any students in the hall, only the ones there were kids that were either skipping or didn't care about being late. I rushed into class and sat down in my seat right as the tardy bell began to ring. As soon as I sat down, my teacher, Mr. Cooke, walked in. He began taking attendance as I sighed in relief that I wasn't late.
