The bell rang, signaling the end of class and the start of lunch. I had already been to three classes this morning, and I had four more after lunch. I was glad for a break before I headed to some more of hell.
"Sophie! Yo Sophie!" My best friend Eliza calls to me from the back of the lunch line. I smile and walk over to her. She hugs me, and we begin to wait in the long line to get some food.
"So, how has your morning been?" She asks me.
"Eventful. Emma turned my alarm off, and we were both almost late. And I didn't get to go on my morning run."
"Well, you have track practice this afternoon, correct?"
"Yeah, but I still like to get that run in the morning," I say as I grab my tray.
"Yeah, I get it. But at least you have track practice this afternoon. You're coming dress shopping with me for homecoming afterwards, correct?" Eliza asks.
"Liz, I've told you before. I'm not going to homecoming if I don't have a date. And we can't afford a dress anyway right now. Plus, it's my night to cook dinner," I say.
A look of hurt and embarrassment crosses her face. "Sorry, I forgot," she says, grabbing her salad.
"It's okay Liz. Sorry for being mean about it. I didn't mean to come of as rude," I say as I grab my salad as well.
"It's okay," she says.
We remain quiet as we walk through the line. I grab a piece of pizza, some macaroni and cheese, and a water bottle. I pay for my meal and glance around the cafeteria for a seat. Liz begins to walk across the room, and I follow her.
She sits down, and I take the seat next to her. Kids gossip around us, but I remain quiet. I eat my lunch slowly, and by the time I'm finished, the bell is just about to ring.
"I'm gonna go ahead and head to my locker, but I'll see you later, okay Liz?" I say to her. She nods her head, and I take that as my cue to leave. I stand up and dump my tray before walking out of the lunchroom. I head to my locker and grab my books for my next class. I shut the locker door and turn around, only to run into someone. My books hit the ground as I grab onto the locker to keep from falling. I bend down to retrieve my books just as the person I bump into does the same.
We simultaneously say, "Ow," as we bump heads.
"Sorry," says the person. I then realize the person is a guy, and as I take a look at his face for the first time, I notice that he is a very attractive guy. He has curly dirty blonde hair, freckles, and the prettiest blue eyes I have ever seen. His jawline game is very strong. When he stand up completely to hand me my books I realize that he is also very tall, probably around 6'3". I glance at his arms to see all muscles and some arm veins. I almost fainted right there.
"Here's your books," he says in a deep voice.
"Th-thanks," I stutter, nervous. What's wrong with me? I'm never nervous around guys!
"So what's your name?" He asks.
"S-Sophie. W-what about you?" I ask.
"I'm Nico."
"N-nice to meet you Nico," I say, extending my hand.
"The pleasure is all mine Sophie," he says, taking my small hand in his large one and shaking it.
"Well, um, I'll see you around I guess," I said awkwardly.
"I hope so," he says before walking away, leaving me with a big smile on my face and cheeks as red as fire. How come I've never noticed him before?
