Paradox

"Ou sont les Americans? Ils lui avaient en leur possession , pourquoi seraient-ils la quitter juste pour nous après qu'elle a tué le directeur de la CIA?" Anna forced her eyes to view the light. She could hear the French police discussing her situation. The cold metal on her wrist was secured safely to the bed.

"Assurez-vous que personne ne sans autorisation vient par ici." One of the officers commanded that her room be restricted to everyone as he walked out. She picked the words out more clearly than she could ever hope for, her french was never this good!

Five armed officers walked in to ensure the man's demands were met. "Nous devons trouver l'autre dès que possible." We have to find the other one as soon as possible. Anna remembered why she was here.

She woke up with an immense headache on the roof, with cuts and bruises she had incurred from the shrapnel of the shell Luke Harper shot. He was also the one who picked her up from the wreckage when she came to. Carly had disappeared. Luke pointed a nine millimeter at her helpless figure as she lay in his hands, but he never fired. Inexplicably he took her onto the helicopter. The very question the french police were asking themselves when she woke in the hospital bed. Why did the Americans leave her here when they already had her in their custody?

The long fluorescent light hanging above her flickered, it was dark outside. She couldn't remember anything between the early morning hours after she blacked out to this late, nothing at all. A familiar memory loss she had suffered over and over again for the past year. But this time she never had anything to drink.

She felt a burning sensation course through the bandages wrapped around her hands and her legs; pain from her earlier encounter, but it was nothing. It couldn't possibly stop her from doing what she had to do. She knew why she was here, and failure was not an option.

The air-con stuttered for a second, and commotion suddenly erupted outside her room a few moments after, in the other wings. Carly is here, she thought. Right on time.

Everything is going accordingly.

One of the armed men signaled to the one standing close to the door to check the corridor. The lights in the room suddenly went dark the moment he opened the door. In fact the whole hospital was shut down. Carly had hacked into the main grid and left them all in the dark.

The officers raised their weapons, hands hot on the trigger for any unauthorized personnel who may try to creep their way into the room. A few gun shots echoed from the corridor, rapid gunfire from some of the other officers scattered around the hospital. Ready to brandish the authority that had been given to them earlier.

A low radio voice mumbled through their respective intercoms "Elle est ici!"

She is here.

Anna never thought Carly could ever be this scary, but she could smell the fear on the officers in her room. Cold stinky sweat that was clinging to their heavily geared clothes. The gun fire died as abruptly as it started, silence. Suddenly the air felt even more dense, hanging heavy with suspense.

"Capitaine?" One of the guards inquired in her trembling voice, but was met with no response. "Capitaine?" Another one called again to no avail, his voice even more terrified. Were these rookies?
