Life was never easy for a boy like Haruka Nanase.
Life itself was pretty unfair if you asked him.
As a child, he was very anti-social, and still is today, and would rarely talk to anyone other than his family. He was believed to be very cold-hearted and self-centered by all of his classmates and their parents, but he simply ignored them. They could believe anything that they wanted as long as they did not bug him with his supposed issues. He was completely normal in his own eyes and thought it was unfair how everyone else had easier lifestyles than he did.
He rarely talked to others and they rarely talked to him. He did not see the problem to this equation he was going over in his head.
So why was he hated by everyone?
It was not like he purposefully acted that way towards anyone, he just never knew how to approach others in the strange ways they greeted each other. He never got the strange nicknames all of them gave to each other and absolutely did not get how all of them could be so... happy.
He never understood how they could all be so preppy and joyful everyday, when he had to suffer living in a life full of pain and sorrow. No wonder no one spoke to him, he'd drive them away with just a look that wasn't supposed to be a glare. It just turned out that way.
And although Haru would never admit it, he had always wanted a friend when he was younger. But now he knows that that was just a wish that will never be granted to him, no matter how much he pleaded to the stars every night before going to bed. It was never meant to be.
Life was even more terrible once he had entered high school.
That's when all of the dirty looks and glares had been thrown his way whenever he ignored every girl, and an occasional boy, that tried to talk to him every once in a while. Many of them gave up after about ten minutes of him not responding to any of their questions. Most of them being about his love life, which were asked by the girls, or if he ever wanted join any kind of sports team, asked by the boys. Others would sometimes be annoyed by his silence and would simply walk away, a loud huff escaping their lungs to show how annoyed they were. It wasn't his fault that he hated communicating with normal people in general, it was just their fault for being so talkative and nosy.
Sometimes, in order for Haru to escape from all of the drama and romance the life of a teenager gave him, he would plug in his black earbuds, put on his playlist that mostly consisted of rock, jazz, and the occasional pop before he would pull out one of the books that he had currently started reading, curling up in a small ball on top of one of the chairs in an empty classroom. That was were he would usually stay during the lunch period, and if it was not available, then he would be over at the schools library, where it was much more quieter. He loved the library and since the librarian was so nice she allowed him to borrow as many of the books that he wanted. Occasionally, he would choose at least two but if he was having a good day, then he would gladly take three instead.
But since neither of those places were available today, Haru decided to just sit in the quietest corner he could find in the cafeteria, the rambunctious laughter surrounding him leaving him with a slight headache. Why did everyone have to be so loud? Couldn't they hear each other just fine without all of the shouting?
A particularly loud shriek made him wince and curl into himself, throwing a glare at the table nearest to him. He absolutely hated anything that was this loud and was mostly the reason why he never ate in the schools cafeteria, making his own with whatever left over food his father had ordered the night before and shutting himself in a bathroom stall or an empty classroom. But since his father had gone drinking with his friends the night before and forgot to get anything for him, Haru had to use the last of the eggs in the house in order to make some tamagoyaki with a side of white rice and a small piece of mackerel.
