Sarada's consciousness fuzzed back into her cloudy brain.
They fought some ninja. She got pretty dizzy. Boruto started carrying her. He gave her his jacket... And now...
She blinked open her heavy eyelids to white. And a gentle snore mere inches above her head.
B-Boruto?!
They were in the hospital, that much she knew for certain. But the ends of her fingers were tingling and numb from gripping something tightly... Something that just so happened to be Boruto's t-shirt.
Well... That explains that...
Gently releasing the now wrinkled fabric, she turned her head. His arm weighed heavy on hers, a cold chill stinging her skin the moment she moved.
Idiot... Her gaze turned up towards him, and along with the movement, pain stabbed into her swollen throat. You're going to get sick...
As she attempted to move away, his hand slipped into her hair and cradled her head against his chest. It was the first time anyone other than her mother held her like this... The first time in nearly eight years. And her thoughts went from apologetic to flustered in an instant.
"'S ok," he mumbled, thumb skimming across her neck, warm breath ruffling her bangs as he sighed through his nose. "I won't leave..."
Blush crept up her neck. She lay frozen, her wide eyes unable to see anything but his white t-shirt. How desperate for attention did fevers make her? Boruto was going to tease the daylights out of her when she woke up. Shannaro.
Before she could escape his warm and comfortable hold on her, a nurse walked into the door. "Mrs. Uchiha!"
Sarada closed her eyes, relaxed her body, and took steady shallow breaths. Pretending to be asleep was the best option in times like these. Thankfully, they didn't have her hooked up to a heart monitor, or it would be beeping like crazy.
"Ah... I knew those two were a thing. But how dare he climb into a sick patient's hospital bed... Where did Mrs. Uchiha go? Did he... Ah!"
The nurse giggled to herself.
"I see. How sweet."
Sarada held back the urge to furrow her eyebrows. Why was she talking about her mother? Her mother shouldn't have been anywhere near there... But suddenly, hazy memories filled her brain of her mother gently playing with her hair... Holding her hand... Kissing her forehead...
And the blood rushed into her cheeks. Baka Boruto.
"Her face is looking pretty red... I'd better check her temperature again before I leave."
Her hair was brushed to the side as a cold metal tip coated in plastic inserted its way into her ear. One beep later, the nurse mumbled to herself.
"It's not as high as I thought... She'll be alright with a bit more rest. And it seems like she'll be able to get plenty of it."
The moment the door closed, Sarada let out a breath she had been holding. If he really transformed into her mom just to comfort her... It was no wonder her half conscious self begged him not to leave.
She always held back. She loved her mother dearly but work at the hospital was more important than satisfying her selfish desire to have her mother all to herself, especially when she was sick. So if Boruto actually stayed by her side despite the first few times she said she was fine... And looked like her mom?
She tilted her head up towards him, heat still warming her cheeks. You really are stupid...
He seemed so peaceful...
