Macey's senses came back to her little by little, but something didn't seem right. She couldn't put her finger on it. Something about her body just didn't feel right. Then somewhere near her ear, she heard two voices. "Eloise, my darling... I am just so happy!"
Macey heard what sounded like the two of them kissing. "Antony, you have no idea how happy I am that I could make you proud because of this."
"Eloise, you are my mate, you make me proud because of that. This little one here..." Macey felt strong arms around her. "Well, this is just more reason for me to be proud."
Macey began to panic slightly. Just what the world was going on? She didn't feel completely in control of her own body so she couldn't open her eyes. She felt soft fingers playing with her hair. "I think it is only right that you name your first son, my love," Eloise said.
What? Son? She was a girl though. What was going on? Macey heard a sigh. "Asher. His name should be Asher," Antony said.
Macey felt like she could faint, though she wasn't sure what was going on with her body. All of a sudden Macey felt seated in her body and her eyes opened. She was no longer on Earth, this she was sure of. She didn't recognize the two people who were looking down at her. Her body felt tiny. This was the first time that she fully took in that she was now a baby. Why she was a baby again, she had no idea. Then even crazier she was in the novel that she'd been reading. It made her wish that she'd paid more attention to more of the details. "Why isn't he crying?" Eloise asked.
Antony chuckled, "Alphas don't cry. You've done well Eloise. You gave birth to an alpha prince."
Macey's mind swirled with thoughts, not the least of which was how she'd ended up here and as the main character of the novel. She couldn't wrap her mind around the fact that she was a he now. She reasoned that she'd get used to it, but it was blowing her mind for now. Antony picked Macey up, wrapping her up in blankets. Eloise asked, "What are you doing, love?"
"It's an alpha thing," Antony assured his mate.
Antony then took Macey from the room. She worried about what he was going to do, but then she knew that Asher lived, so it couldn't be something terrible. She looked up at this man who was to be her father in this life. Macey was now constrained to this body. Sure she could now control it to a certain degree, but not nearly as much as she wanted. Eventually, they were outside under a giant full moon. Antony laid Macey down on what looked like an altar. He stood beside it, his hand on top of her and eyes closed, "Blessed gods above I thank you for the birth of my son Asher. I ask that you bless him as you have blessed all those of the Saville line. Help him to become a good alpha and king, but most of all a good person. Praise the gods above for a safe delivery."
The words that Antony, her father Macey realized, had spoken, moved her. Before Asher had just seemed like another character in a book. She hadn't thought he could be a real person with thoughts and feelings. It seemed like she was about to find out though. Her father picked her up after a moment of reflection and then took her back into the palace. Once inside her mother feed her and as she fell asleep she concluded that after she woke up that she would embrace this second chance at life in full. Macey was dead. Asher Saville had been born.
