Ruth's POV

I woke up to the small vibration of my phone. I sleepily looked at the clock. 12:35.

I had about 15 minutes until I met Josh. I was so nervous. I felt like I was lying to Ronnie. I should've told her.

It shouldn't be a big deal, right? Josh just wants someone to watch them with him, right?

Josh
Are you awake?

I struggled to type a 'yes' in reply. It was 5 minutes until I met him. I was going to wait til I heard him shuffle by my door to get off. It wasn't very long after I heard him shuffle by the door.

I slowly crept off the bed having to climb down the ladder. I tiptoed over to the door when I heard something I was dreading.

"...where are you going?" Ronnie croaked out sleepily.

"Bathroom." I said quickly. "My stomach hurts."

"Okay." She mumbled and rolled over. I let out a small breathe and slid out the door. I crept down the hallways praying to not wake anyone up.

I turned the corner to see Josh waiting. He smiled at me making me feel all mushy inside. Every time he even looked at me I felt all stupid.

"Ready?" He whispered. I nodded and slid on the birkenstocks waiting by the door.

We stepped out of the door quietly. It wasn't too hot or too cold outside. I felt exposed in the dark night.

"Did you actually fall asleep?" He asked quietly.

"Yes, did you not?" I asked. I crossed my arms holding myself against the slight breeze.

"No, it's only a few hours." He said.

"Well, I wasn't going to loose more sleep than I had to." I said. "Ronnie woke up."

"She did?" He asked surprised.

"Yeah, I just told her I was going to the bathroom." I said. He nodded and looked out into the dark sky.

"Have you ever stayed up to watch them or are you a 8 o'clock firework person?" He asked.

"Definitely 8 o'clock type person." I said smiling. He laughed a little and it was silent again. The night was calming. The quiet air seemed to surround us. I knew it would be exploding in a matter of minutes.

"Is this a good spot?" He asked pointing to an area of grass infront of a small pond.

"Sure."

Josh's POV

I watched Ruth as she sat down beside me on the slightly damp grass. Her hair was still messy from sleeping. Her eyes were still puffy from waking up. She looked so good, I didn't understand it.

"Guess what?" I asked.

"What?" She asked turning to me.

I held up my camera infront of her. Her face lit up as she looked at the camera. I held it out for her to look at.

"This is so cool." She whispered looking through the lens. I watched her in awe at the simple camera. "I've always wanted to have a camera."

She fumbled with it and turned to look at me through it. "How do I take a picture?"

"You press this little button." I grazed my hand over the top of hers to point to where she could take pictures. I felt warmth and shock slide through my hand when I touched her.

She pushed something and turned to film me. I smiled not being sure what else to do. I waved at the camera as she continued to point it at me.

She turned it away and looked at the front of it. She played with it for a moment and let out an odd noise.
