"mirrors are just glass and you are more than that."

It was a beautiful October morning, there were birds flying around outside, basking in the warmth of the sun. Many individuals, mostly of the older spectrum, were either out tending to their lawns or squeezing out the last of their gardening for the year. While those younger had to spend such a beautiful day indoors. In four small walls for hours at a time, their prison sentence for thirteen years of their life if not more. A place called school.
Nicole Scott, a young girl was woken up at an alarming rate by the sound blaring into her ear. A groan escaped her lips and her hand popped out from under the covers to slam down onto the button of her alarm clock. She rose in disheveled fashion, rubbing her blurred vision away, left with her equally terrible eyesight. Nicole quickly reached to her nightstand and picked up her glasses, putting them on and indulging in the beauty of her room.
However the beauty of herself was surely missing, with her frazzled hair and sunken in eyes. It looked like she had woken up from death rather than sleep. But she was quick to fix her appearance in the bathroom mirror, brushing out each imperfect strand that stood up. Her face was rid of her glasses, instead replaced by contacts so she looked more put together. The biggest struggle of the morning was putting together a suitable outfit. This really put a dent in her seemingly positive mood that morning.
Her tidy room had become a mess in mere minutes, clean shirts piled onto the floor along with almost every pair of pants she owned. An irritated huff fled from her breath while she stood staring at those piles of discarded clothes wondering what the hell she was going to do. She needed a light outfit since she didn't know whether she'd be hot or cold due to the weathers sudden change. It was quite distressing when she looked at the clock and the minutes were counting down before her and Nathan needed to leave while she was still wearing her pajamas.
A harsh knock startled her from her trance and she stomped over to the door and swung it open to meet her brothers annoyed frown. "You're not even dressed? Jesus hurry up or you're walking to school" he scoffed turning away from her door and walking toward the stairwell. She rolled her eyes and closed the door before she began pacing. Finally her eyes caught a nice pair of flared jeans she could pair with the coffee colored tank-top and a light sweater.
When the outfit was put together it did not look at all as to what she pictured. It was humbling, clinging to her every curve, something she hated quite a bit. But she didn't have another minute for an outfit change, so the anxieties in her head had to be muted for the time being. Though her sanity surely would grow thin throughout the morning, feeling insecure in the tight fit outfit.
She busied her mind with collecting her things and rushing down the stairs, straight into the kitchen where her brother was sat at the counter eating a banana. He looked at her and rolled his eyes while she maneuvered past him, to get to the cupboard to grab a cup, filling it with a bit of water. He twisted his body and grabbed a pill bottle from the counter, untwisting the cap and taking out a couple of pills before handing them to Nicole. He watched her carefully as she popped them on her tongue and downed the cup of water. She sighed and put the glass in the sink, her eyes scanning herself in the reflection of the glass.
"Nathan" she suddenly spoke, her voice nearly a whisper. He didn't really respond but he turned his head in her direction. "Do I look stupid?" her body turned around, a glum pout on her lips while she looked down at herself.
"Yup" he answered
He then grabbed his car keys and left the kitchen not wanting to indulge in his sisters 'pity party' as he put it. Nicole let out a puff of air, crossing her arms in annoyance, thinking to herself why she couldn't get a brother that tried to diminish her worries instead of indulging in them. Maybe in her next life.
