M - Two more weeks.

V - Happy anniversary.

M - What?

V - I put it in my calendar when I first texted you. It's been four months.

M - Oh, did you get me roses? I really like roses. Happy Anniversary to you too.

V - Yup. They should be there any time now.

M - Awesome! Can't wait. I'll give you yours in person.

V - Oh, dare I ask?

M - It's a surprise.

My doorbell rings. I shuffle toward the front door with my phone in hand. A man stands there holding a vase full of red and black roses. Thin, dark, painted twigs with a shine stick out around them. "Here you go, ma'am. Mind the thorns. I'm not sure why they didn't remove them." He thrusts the overstuffed vase into my hands and promptly leaves. I stand gaping, telling myself to breathe.

I maneuver my phone to my back pocket and move back inside, closing the door with my foot. He had my address from when he mailed that merch. I slide down the wall, staring at the flowers.

He kept up with when we began texting.

And I jokingly said I had something to give him in person.

There went my chill.

My phone buzzes and I check.

V - You're overwhelmed right now and I should have asked.

V - You okay?

M - Picking my jaw up off the floor. Thank you. They're beautiful. Why are you so thoughtful? I'm floored. Literally.

I snap a pic of the flowers sitting beside me on the floor and me holding my left hand in half a heart.

V - You're welcome. Mission accomplished then since I wanted to surprise you.

M - Understatement of ever.

V - Bubba approves?

M - And forgot to tip the guy because I'm an idiot.

V - It's taken care of.
