V - Safe travels. Can't wait to see you.

M - Same to you. Let me know when you land, so I know you're safe.

V - Still in the air, but might be at the hotel earlier if you're game. I am too antsy to socialize when I know you're so close.

M - YES. I'm getting Thai food. Want anything?

V - Love Thai. Anything is good. Just a warning—my friends are very curious about you.

M - Tell them hi and I'm not sorry because I want you here now.

V - You can tell them after you meet them. If I say it, there will be chaos.

Nerves settle under my skin like an old friend. By the time I go pick up the food, it's closing. I arrived just in time, thankfully. On the way back to the hotel, I ask the car service to stop at a gas station. I quickly nab a case of water, pay, and return to the car.

When we arrive, there's a large group of—mostly—men checking in. I grab one of the luggage dollies and load the water and food, pushing it into the lobby and toward the elevator. While waiting for the elevator, I see him. The door dings open. I push the cart in and it bangs on the elevator door. Somehow I force it in. I turn around and watch him, willing him to look up. As the door closes, he does and our eyes lock. His shock takes a moment to subside before we're both smiling.

I reach for my phone as a message pops up.

V - Hello, gorgeous.

M - Hi, sexy.

V - They all know that was you because I'm still smiling.

M - Me too. Tell them the meet and greet is later and I'm asking very nicely if they can handle whatever needs your attention so I can borrow you.

V - I'm already walking to the elevator.

M - Guess I better move this cart out of the way so the elevator will come back down.

I drop the food on the counter and unload the water bottles, leaving the empty dolly outside my door. The bluetooth speaker pairs with my phone, playing Daily Mix 2.

A knock sounds on the door and I jerk up, turning around. Feet planted in the lush carpet, I struggle between hyperventilating and running to throw the door open. The latter wins.
