Spencer yelped as she threw open his door, quickly hiding his romance novel under his pillow.

"Oh, it's just you. You know, Bri, there's this really cool thing called knocking that civilized people do before entering a room. You should try it sometime!"

She handed him the letter. "Tell me you wouldn't do the same in this scenario."

Brielle watched as his expression turned from confusion to concern. "Okay..." She studied his pupils, watching them dart back and forth as he read the dreadful words. "Wait, what?"

"I know!"

Spencer sat up, slowly reading the note again. "This doesn't make any sense."

"Thank you for pointing out the obvious." She immediately grimaced at her tone, as well at the glare he gave her. "Sorry, sorry. I mean, what the hell is this? They're undoubtedly lying about Iridia. So what exactly do they have on me? What do they want?"

He pondered for a moment. "They could be bluffing. Maybe they don't have any proof at all, they just want to get a confession out of you."

"It's so out of the blue though. They just randomly decide to take the chance that I did in fact have sex with Quincy?" she said as she started pacing back and forth. She could hear Spencer's unspoken comment on her burning a path in the carpet, but she didn't care.

"Perhaps. It could've been someone else who told them, too. Who all knows the truth?"

Her steps faltered for a moment before they continued their back and forth journey. "I'll make a list—"

"Of course you will."

"—of everyone who knows. There shouldn't be too many. Though, Kelam told people, I don't know who or how many. Of all the people who would be willing to give away the secret it would probably be one of them. I'll ask him at school."

"Most importantly though is what do they want from you? It could just be money, we've been down that road before with Mr. Gulliver. We don't know who it is however, so it could be anything."

She shrugged. "I guess I'll just have to find out when I meet them."

"I'll come with you. Do you want me to be right with you or be there from a distance?"

"No, it's fine. You already have plans on Saturday, don't you?"

His eyebrows furrowed. "Yeah, but I can cancel. What do you mean 'it's fine'? You aren't going alone."

Her silence spoke volumes.

"No." He stood up, trying to use the whole three inches of height he had on her to seem more authoritative. "Don't you dare. Tell me you won't go to this meeting by yourself."

She gave him her best reassuring look. "Okay, yes. Going alone would be stupid. I don't want you to cancel though, I'll bring someone. I promise."

He relaxed again, and went back to sit on his bed. "Now would you please stop pacing and tell me about your date?"

Kelam arrived at school feeling just slightly better than how he'd been the past few days, which was a marvelous improvement. His day would start relatively fine until he saw Trilliaris and Prescott in the halls together, a sight he would quickly maneuver to avoid, and he'd yet to see such this morning. Then again, he remembered, Iridia didn't prefer to arrive early to school, merely on time. Before 9am, it was mostly a matter of avoiding Brielle, usually a task not too difficult. That was, at least, until she silently apparated behind his locker door, only revealed with a confident, quick close.
