Soliloquy, Luna Sower

And underneath the gibbous moon is where I learned to feel

Her tumbling hair, a pair of eyes as blue as sharpened steel

The cracking fire lit her face and lit the night with zeal

A thousand times I'd looked at her, but never was it real

And underneath the waning moon is where I learned denial

For even while she smiled at me, my motives were on trial

I wore the mask so well, I knew, that I had won her trust

So how could I betray her for the ugliness of lust?

And underneath the crescent came the curse of urgency

When, hounded by her suitors, she professed the truth to me

I hesitated, damned us both with what I could not do

I should have spoken; should have told her, I am just like you.

And underneath the empty sky was where I found the void

The scorn around her would not stop until she was destroyed

The castle gates besieged; she needed someone with a voice

I would have spoken if I'd had a whisper of a choice

I watched beneath the waxing light as consequence unveiled

Hatred that had spread so far because my courage failed

The man who stood before us held in brutal hands a knife

I could have spoken. Even then. Instead, I took a life.

And time still passes, and the stars still caper overhead

Refusing to return to me the things I never said

I wonder, in the miles between us, does she feel the rain?

For underneath the full moon there is nothing left but pain.

Draft #5, Iridia Trilliaris

I once was broken, parts askew

They crafted me to something new.

Everything my engine cried

All disappeared in their blue eyes.

I'm only made to build machines

Smeared with grease and never clean

But they like me with my grime,

Stains they see as sanctified
