Danika's eyelids fluttered open.
She came to realize that it was a brand new day, which meant her birthday was now only 3 days away. How exciting, she will finally be 13 years old instead of 12! She got up from her bed and did a big stretch before walking toward her closet to put on clean clothes for the day. She chose black skinny jeans, a white spaghetti-strap tank top, and a pair of black sneakers. That would work, simple but ready to conquer the day.Her mother, Estrella, laid sleeping in the bed. They still shared a bedroom, but now that Danika was getting older she craved for more privacy. Especially for when she starts dating.
Now, you may be wondering if Danika had acknowledge that she lived in a place called the Underworld. The answer is no, she was blissfully unaware. How? Well, Earth no wonder existed. Not like it did before the apocalypse. She had no memory of it. The only thing she knew was the Underworld for her that was normal. She did have questions, a lot of them. But her parents had managed to keep everything secret, but since she would be turning 13 in just 3 days, she figured it was time for her to know everything!
Danika left the bedroom quietly, making sure to not wake her mother. She technically wasn't allowed to leave the bedroom without Estrella, but the older Danika aged, the most deviant she became. Just like her father.
Every morning she knew she could sneak out and go find her father, Lucifer. Who had already been awake for several hours, training. Danika loved to watch them fight, it was entertaining. Someday she hoped she would fight too. Danika grew up to be more girly than warrior Underworld princess, like her father wanted her to. But she knew, deep down, she was meant to be just like her father.
Danika quietly hurried, managing to sneak past everyone to get to the battlegrounds. It was very loud in there; the closer you got the louder the ruckus got. It was packed shoulder to shoulder with demons, cheering Lucifer and his opponent on. The demons surrounded Lucifer and his opponent; dried blood stained the floor beneath their feet. Lucifer was winning.
Lucifer has trained physically and mentally every single day since Danika was 7 years old. He was bigger now, stronger and smarter than he was years ago. He was making himself indestructible. Lucifer was sending fists to the demon's face, absolutely breaking facial bones and rearranging his face but the best part about that was the demon kept coming back for more. It was stupid.
He slung his right fist against the demon's chin, sending him to the floor in agony. Lucifer's focus was cut short immediately, his head snapped up and his eyes scanned the crowd. That's when he saw his daughter peeking through the crowd of hyped demons and fallen angels, he exhaled loudly.
"That's enough!" He roared, silently the training grounds. It was so silent now, you could hear the next person breathe. "Danika, you know you're not supposed to be here."
Lucifer placed his hands on his hips firmly. The demon still laid beneath him, trying to find the strength to get up again. The crowd around Danika stepped away, exposing her instantly to her father. She cursed underneath her breath.
"Traitors," she whispered underneath her breath. Causing a female demon to chuckle. "Dad, I'm not a little girl anymore. I will be thirteen in three days, you can't protect me all the time anymore."
Lucifer smirked then shook his head.
"That's enough for today everyone, we'll continue tomorrow."
The crowd started leaving, but Abaddon stayed with Lucifer. He tossed him a towel to dry off with from the blood splatter and sweat, while Danika hurried down from the stands to meet Lucifer on the main floor.
"And when I turn thirteen, you and mom can tell me everything."
Abaddon chuckled. The closer her birthday got, the more she pushed for information. Lucifer turned to face her.
"You're going to have to talk to your mother about that one, that's not on me."
"But if you tell her that she should, she'll listen to you dad."
Lucifer laughed.
"Sweetheart, you don't know your mother like I do. She controls me, I don't control her."
Danika sighed. Lucifer always coward down when it came to Estrella, whatever Estrella said; goes. But they weren't married, they weren't even together and Danika couldn't understand why when it was so obvious they were in love. Lucifer was alone, so was her mother. They should just be together.
"Are we still going to have a big birthday party?"
"Decent size," Lucifer replied, putting on a shirt. "But you know your big party will be for when you turn sixteen. Not thirteen."
Lucifer pulled on his cloak.
"Now come on, let's get you back inside before your mother finds out you were here with me."
"You're too scared of mom, dad." Danika snickered, following her father back to the castle.
"Absolutely, I am terrified of your mother. I always will be." Lucifer grinned then gave Danika a wink, causing her to laugh.
