Sabin knew he had only been gone for the afternoon, but just the site of the cabins ahead of him made his body ache. The warm glow emanating from the windows made him long for the warmth held behind them.

He could already imagine Mayleen swirling her wand in a motion to signify the soon to be appearance of hot coffee in a mug for him. Jaylon would be bouncing around the small house in anticipation of the hot Cocoa soon to be in his hands. While little Suzie would be curled up with her Dolly and a book. Sabin would enter their Cabin in a burst of cold and the kids would run to him. Jaylon quick to jump on his back, with Suzie's fragile form leaning in to hug him around his front. They would shiver with the cold he ushered in, but still cling to him as he attempted to manuevre the various jackets and other supplies off of his body. Only able to get this done when their mother would call from the stove with cups of cocoa outstretched for them, and they would run to meet her. Once he finally got the cold items off his body, Mayleen would meet him by the fire with a piping cup of coffee to warm him faster and a gentle kiss to welcome him home.

The lure of this image brought a pep to his step as he rounded the bend in the snow trail that had been dug the day before. The once empty sack, now briming with food and other necessities, began to feel as light as a snowflake as he stepped onto the porch. He quickly shook his body and stomped his feet to get the dusting of snow, he'd acquired during his travel to town, off of himself. As he gave his head a final shake, he reached for the door knob, but was surprised when it swung open instead. He met Mayleen's warm, honey-colored eyes as she smiled up into his and she tugged him inside. Shutting the door with his foot, he embraced her in a hug as she began to tug at his cold clothing to get them off of him. The children ran towards them, sloshing the mugs of cocoa they had already recieved. Only stopping to quickly set them on the Hearth, per a quick rebuke from Mayleen about spilling it, before reaching Sabin with their excited smiles and eager embraces. After a few minutes of greetings and gibberish, the kids remembered their cocoa and ran back to the hearth. Finally able to shuck off his outer layers, Sabin leaned in to Mayleen's warm embrace and smiled down at her. As he held her tighter, she released him and brought her wand above their heads and a dainty display of mistletoe unfurled a few inches above them. He smiled brighter and slowly leaned in to kiss Mayleen's soft lips as she wrapped her arms around his neck and whispered "Merry Christmas Eve".
