Danny stared up at the ceiling.
He had been awake for a few hours now, and while part of him could feel its effects, he elected to ignore it. The conversation with Red Hood the night before had been plaguing him all night. He said...that his dad wanted to see him but was holding back out of some weird notion of protecting Danny...but that didn't make sense right? Did it make sense? Well....Danny supposed he had sort of planned to do the same thing with Selina at first so he couldn't really judge but really?
And how did Red Hood even know his dad anyway?
He glanced at where his now burnt jacket and gloves lay. How on earth was he supposed to explain that to Selina? It was a miracle she hadn't woken up with the gunshots and hissing and all that, but it would be a lot harder to hide the fact that his brand-new jacket was now riddled with what looked like burns. Not to mention the burns on his hands weren't completely healed like they usually would. Maybe that thing was particularly harmful to ghosts? Yeah, he wasn't sure how to get out of this one. He had a feeling that Selina wasn't going to be as easy to fool as his parents were. They were so much easier to distract...all you had to do was mention ghosts.
Speaking of ghosts...there was still that thing that he had yanked out of Red Hood. Would Frostbite even know what to do with that? He was hesitant to even take something like that to the Far Frozen in case it broke out and hurt someone, but he had promised to help the anti-hero out and he needed to know if that...stuff could be cured. Who else could he go to? Vlad? His Parents? Yeah right.
So much to think about in such a small amount of time.
His sensitive hearing picked up where Selina had been in the kitchen for the past half hour or so. He really should go out there. It was the last day he had with her, but he was dreading having to explain his jacket and how exactly it got that way. It was hard to think of a proper excuse.
Still...she was probably depressed about spending less time with him.
So, sighing, he made sure he was perfectly ghostly before phasing out the door and through the swarm of angry cats. Hmm...looked like another one joined the crew and it was a violent one at that. Perfect, at least there was one thing he wouldn't miss.
"Morning Selina!" He called out, floating to the small table and sitting in one of the chairs. He made sure to keep his legs intangible for the cats.
"Oh! Good morning Alan! I was just getting some breakfast ready. You like fried eggs?"
"If it's not trying to bite me back, I can eat anything." Danny chuckled. "So, what's on the agenda today? More touring?"
"Well...I was actually wondering if it was ok if we stayed in today." Selina asked, a small smile on her face. "Seeing as how you mentioned that you...needed to go home. I was thinking we could spend the last day just...talking."
"Talking." Danny repeated, raising an eyebrow in surprise and confusion. "Uhh if that's what you want?.... About what?"
"Anything." came the reply as Selina placed a plate in front of him. "We can break the ice with a game of 20 questions if you want. Unlimited passes, so you don't have to worry about me prying. I just...want to know a little more before you leave."
Guilt gripped Danny when he noticed the expertly hidden pain in her voice. So small he easily could have missed it. He...really wasn't making this easy on her. How was he any better than what his bio-dad was doing? Knowing his mother was here and still not reaching out fully? He could hardly hold his dad in any guilty position when he was doing the exact same thing.
"Right...20 questions it is then. No problem....you wanna go first?" There was the hesitation that still haunted the corner of his mind. That he shouldn't be giving her anything more than he already has. It was only going to hurt more when he left....but it was overshadowed by the fact that he...he really wanted to know her too. His birth mother. He wanted to talk to her.
